Performance chip for supercharged 1990 mustang

I've been having problems with my 1990 5.0 leaning out on the mid and top end. Theres is a tuning shop here that can custum make a chip for me for $347.00 but here's what sucks. tuning is $180.00 and hour the guy says its going to take him about 2 hours to tune. So I'm looking at $600 plus. Any other alternative I can do for leaning out on top end and computer not taking out enough timing?

It currently has a msd boost controller and FMU I also just put on a 9# pulley. Supercharger is made by powerdyne so maybe 6 or 7lbs actual boost.

thats what it costs, bottom line, you wanna play you gotta pay. those rates are not outrageous.

Last time i was on the dyno, we found a problem that could have eaten my motor... so the $185 an hour was well worth it

Hi there DSGB302,

I live in Canada (Toronto area) and had the same sort of problem but I was running really rich. I mean really really rich.

What I have in my 90 Mustang GT is

-Powerdyne with a 6 psi pully (3-4 actuall psi)
-E303 cam
-GT40 Intake and heads
-40lb injectors
-High volume fuel pump
-MSD ignition
-373 gears
a few other minor stuff.

Once I got the tune the power difference was unbelievable. I am still running a little rich and that is because I didn't have the higher Octane fuel when I went to tune (my stupidity) so the shop didn't want to lean it out due to a lot of damage if I was to run to lean under boost.
The Tune was so much better that my Mustang actually passed emmisions with all this stuff.

So a tune in my opinion is money well spent, especially if you can prevent damage (extensive damage).

I was wondering about your Powerdyne 9psi pully. Did you originally have a 6psi Kit and just purchased a 9psi pully and just installed it? Or was yours a 9psi kit?

I have the 6psi kit and I am looking to install the 9psi pully. I don't know if it is OK to just install the 9psi pully and if thereis any damage that I can cause.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

I'm running a Paxton 1220SL (6lb) on my 331. With my Anderson powerpipe I see about 7-8 lbs under WOT. I purchased a Chipmaster Revolution chip brand new with the flip switch included for 70 bucks off of Ebay. I had my tuner program the chip with an initial tune for 150 bucks (CAN). It was an absolute must. But you will have to spend some additional money to get it to run right.
