Performer Air-Gap versus RPM Air-Gap

Anyone got some feedback on the new Performer Air-Gap? I saw it on the Edelbrock website, but can't find an application for it on a Small Block Ford.

Pay no attention to it, it's just another product aimed at the small block Chevy guys(who seem to be easy to fool with the newest "whiz-bang-doo-dads"). Contrary to what Edelbrock advertises, the RPM series manifolds work as well in "off-idle" rpms clear to the limit of the engine's abilities. You'd have to put each on a motor on a dyno to see what little difference there is below 1500 rpms.

The AG is significantly taller and often causes hood clearance issues.

IMO, if you need that much intake, you are better off with a mild single plane intake.

according the e'brock site the performer air gap (small chevy) is only .25" taller than a regular performer and about 3/4" shorter than an RPM air gap. they probably designed it for 2nd gen camaro guys since the rpm air gap won't fit under a stock 2nd gen hood (with any sort of decent air cleaner, anyway), at least that would be my guess.

they don't list the performer air gap for the small ford, yet, but i would imagine the same would hold true for 65-66 mustang guys as well, especially with a 351w

An RPM air gap for a 302 will fit under a closed hood. You don't even need the early 66 mounts either. Just a drop base air cleaner and you have room left too.

Not so good with the windsor.

Well, it's definitely not new as I bought mine a LONG time ago. Yes, it works very well.

I think it is a little confusing (to my pea brain) that they've had a prodcut called the Performer RPM Air-Gap and have now released a new product called the Performer Air-Gap.

think of it as the difference between a performer and a performer RPM and then add the air gap in for both of them. i can see how it would get confusing and quick.

the performer air gap (for chevy) is new for 08 while the RPM air gap has been around for a while. i'm guessing the performer air gap for small fords will be released in the next year, they generally experiment with the chevy stuff first and then when/if they decide it's a good design they release it fords and others later.

I have an RPM Air Gap on top my 351W. Even with a drop base air cleaner it is a tight fit.

I thought that's what I said....windsor...not so good. It's tight with a 351, but it can be done. For more flow put a K&N lid on top if you aren't using an air filter with enough area.

I was offering my own direct experience. It sounded like your direct experience was limited to a 302. 2 years from now, when somebody is searching these threads for info on how an Air Gap fits a 351W, a post that says "I heard that an Air Gap is a tight fit on a 351W" will be of limited value to him.

Is the RPM air gap much better than a non air gap RPM or any air gap compared to its predecessor? Consider blocking off the heat riser passages. I don't think its worth the money if you already have the older version.
