Performer cam and Mallory Unilite

I have an Edlebrock Performer cam in my `65 289, actually the motor came out of a `66. I just bought a Mallory Unilite dstributor model# 3755101

Question is do I need to replace the steel gear on the Mallory with a bronze gear?? Don't know what the cam is made of and have read the gear and the cam have to be compatible with each other.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this !!
