So I have a pair of PI cams here that I am going to throw in a 95 Cougar. They are used, but in spectacular shape. They came out of a 2001 'Stang, and have the pressed on gears. I thought the cam gears were supposed to have the big holes in one of them? Both gears are solid, with the exception of two small holes near the center on either side of the cam hole. My question is, since neither of these are labeled, which cam goes on what side? The guy scratched an R into one of the gear faces, which makes me assume that that is the right cam, but I would like to be more sure. The part number on that cam is XL3E 5C255 A8C with the number 0106017 under it. The other cam is XL3E 6251 A8C with the number 0802731 under that. Now, is this Right meaning the driver's side cam? That would be my assumption.

If anyone else might know the answer to this one, it'd be appreciated. I suspect Gearbanger might know something, since he's souping up a cougar as well :nice:

Also, if anyone has any tips on how to get this PI intake in, that'd be helpful too. I've got an EGR delete in place, but have no idea what fuel rail I need to look for to get this hooked up. The car has a return fuel system, and all of the rails I have found that fit on the PI intake are returnless.

Hell, while I am asking 20 questions, are there any good writeups on an IRS center section removal? I have a nice rebuilt diff here with 4.10s on it waiting to go in, but have never messed with IRS before. Thanks :SNSign:

The way I figured out left or right PI cams was I looked at the NPI cams when I removed them and compared the lobe locations and matched them accordingly to the PI cams. The PI cams you have with the pressed on gears will require you to remove the front cam cover, crank gear and chain from the engine, a major PITA. Otherwise, if you had the bolt-on gears, (2002+ NPI cams) you could use your NPI gears with the PI cams. You could also use an Anderson tool to change out the cams w/o removing the front cam cover. I installed 2003 PI cams w/Anderson tool and it was a snap.

As for the PI intake, use the fuel rails from a 96-98 GT since they have a return-style fuel system. I'm surprised the ones from your Cougar don't work but I don't know much about them. I was under the impression your stock fuel rails would fit the new PI intake since the original is an NPI intake. There is a whole write-up elsewhere on PI intake install so I won't bother you with those details. The temp. sensor in the crossover will need to be drilled and tapped (very easy on aluminum) or use a T-fitting on the other sensor. As for the rear-end, I can't help you there. Good luck.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...

PI Cams will not work in 95 and older 4.6L 2V heads. To put a PI intake on that car is going to be a chore to as you need the fuel rails, the remaining intake parts and cables from a 96 - 97 TBird/Cougar and I might be forgetting things. In your cars case, probably the easiest thing to do to get more power is to swap in a newer 4.6L. There is a lot of info on this type of swap on the TBird Board( http://forums.tccoa.com ).
