Got my headswap kit from Parkway Ford today. Everything is there and now my buddy can't help for a couple weeks Anyway, I'm looking over the heads and inspecting them and I don't see where PI is stampled into them anywhere. Is PI always stamped on the heads. These are supposed to be 2004 heads straight from the factory. Before someone suggest they are NONPI, they have the square intake ports.

I never checked to see if mine had PI stamped on them or not . I know the older heads had the stamp.

Mine didn't either. Did you get them FRPP? Mine came in FRPP boxes and I highly doubt they make non-PI heads anymore.

If the stamp is there, it will be on the end of the head. Should be a number and then PI under the number.

i think they still make NPI heads. they are for cars that need new heads but were NPI from the factory. its amazing what you can get from the dealer.

I'm not going to be an anal idiot about it. Those damn ports are twice the size of those little circles on the NPI heads. I am not an engine builder in any respect, but from what I can see just a little bit of machining could really clean up those intake and exhaust ports. You'd think Ford would smooth those out a little. Maybe they do when they'll install them at the factory??? I don't think I can wait for help. Did anyone ever get a quote for labor from thier local Ford dealer???

Thats what I did with my heads. My brother owns an engine rebuilding business, with lots of super cool tools. We P&P the crap out of them.

Ford doesn't clean up the ports b/c it's just not cost effective.

Cost effective??? WTF??? If they would tweak everything they could, those 99-04 Mustangs could've had 270-280 HP all these years. I guess they wouldn't have sold any more or any less, though. The almighty profit margin <<<<<

It's not there. I looked on ebay earlier and I did see that it is stamped on the back end of the heads. I inspected both ends to no avail. The #58 was on one of the heads. The other blank. But, the sticker on the FRPP box says PI Head!!!!!

I see that you never looked at yours, Canada. Makes you wonder, HUH? Ford doesn't make any other SOHC heads than PI and non-PI, correct? If so, we don't have some kind of freaks with the correct intakes ports and wrong cams, do we???

never looked for the PI stamp either. after the swap i knew for sure they were PI's though. the difference is that the PI heads have a box shape port design and the NON PI's have tear drop shape

Hey Tom, yeah they're box-shaped. I'm just a nitpicking idiot. Did you do your headswap yourself? I see you're in PA. Whereabouts? If you had the work done, who did it and were you pleased with them???

as for a quote, you have to look up a 'Head gasket replacement' which is close to the labor, since Ford dosen't have a 'headswap' labor charge. all dealers are different in labor hours. mine will do it for a tad over 2 grand

Oh, No!!! Stop!! Stop!! No More!!! Awww rats, now I'm going to start thinking they're made in Taiwon by kiddie labourers or something.
I'll do a bit of research on these non-pi pi's.[?!?] and keep you posted.
On the bright side, I've had mine on for a while now, and I'm very pleased with the HP gains.

Great. HP gains are good. As I said, my mechanic can't get to it for about two weeks. There is a dynojet dyno about 1 hour from my house. I'm definitely hitting that after the swap, but I'm going crazy right now because I want to go and blow another $100 to get a before number. I'll just ask wifey what she thinks and I'm sure it'll be explained to me rather quickly why it is such a bad freakin' idea.
