PI intake swaps get in here

I just got off the phone with Dallas Mustang and they said that the PI intake had different port shapes and I would have serious drivability issues. My question to those that have done the swap have you had problems, or was it a simple plug and play type of thing. Thanks for the help

the dealerships dont read forums that much, hehe. the Pi intake swap is pretty common now since they're so cheap used and are a pretty easy swap. i had just my pi intake on my npi heads before i did the swap and drive it for over 2 months. car ran great and definatly felt more power in the mid and soem in the upper range. definatly a worthwhile mod. mine idled perfect and drive fine with no hesitations. just use rtv in the rigth spots and you'll be fine. try and find one on ebay so they'll be cheaper.

where would I need to use RTV?

how does urs have an aluminum crossover!?! :confused:

anyway, im not sure if u can or not. it's the same type, just not sure how hard it would be to transfer it. i never heard of an aluminum crossover on NPI manifolds. is urs off a different type car?

thats cool!

i doubt u can get away without using RTV. 1 or 2 guys have done it without it and had no problems (as they say), but i dont see how u can cuz the larger port overhangs over the plastic portion of the gasket (on the inner 2 runners). but most guys use RTV and have no problems at all. just gotta do it in the right places.
 
The aluminum crossover from your old intake can be transferred to the PI intake as long as the PI intake also has the aluminum crossover. It should bolt right up. Just get a PI intake from a 02 and newer. This will save you from having to tap the second hole for your temp sensor. You can also run the temp sensor off the driver side of the block. It is a most mod for NPI cars.

so what you are saying is that if i get one from 02 or newer it will just bolt up beside the the use of rtv?

Also ive heard mention of a adapter somewhere instead of rtv. anyone know about this? where to get it if so?

no, all PI (99+) ports are the same. basically the same intake, aside from the front crossover. you'll need the rtv if you want to GAURANTEE a proper seal!. there's no point in NOT using it, you're only gonna risk messing up. i used rtv my first time and i still had a leak. i did it the second time correctly (see the links above) and did it much better and it was great, no hissing at all.

these adapters are from livernois motorspots (blev on this board is with them i believe). its basically a 3/4" adapter (i believe thats the height) that transfers the ports. the pros of this is you get a better transition and less swirling, and more power (dynoed at 20-30 hp and tq on average throughout on 5.0M & SF mag). the cons of that is you must use their "cut" manifold, which is shorter on top to allow for the height difference due to the adapters. another con of this is it costs alot more than just getting a used pi manifold and some rtv and doing it urself. you'll dyno on an average less (some guy here posted a dyno sheet and only got about 15-20 more on average i believe with no adapters). but another pro of the kit is the second coolant temp sensor is already drilled/tapped for you on the crossover. but the tap can be easily done urself on any year pi manifold, again see my links above (99/00 manifolds just tap on the t-stat housing)

What I was saying since you already have the updated NPI intake with the aluminum crossover, you can unbolt the crossover from that intake and mount it onto any 02 and newer intake (that also has the aluminum crossover) This just saves you from having to tap for the second sensor. You will still have to use RTV for a seal if you don't use the adapters. I have the adpaters because I plan to put a blower on within a couple of months.
 
yep also have done the swap....no adapter plates...and it's been over 2 months....

had to do the swap twice to get it to seal properly with the RTV, but it's definately worth it....fairly easy to do and definately a SOTP difference...havn't had a dyno yet...
