I just completed the PI swap on my car :hail2: , using the parts listed in my sig. My question, I haven't had a chance to look at the fuel trim data yet and am wondering, has anyone had any problems running lean on the top end without doing a tune after the swap? I am running the stock ECU with stock programming, no tuner or chip. I have no check engine light on and haven't since the swap.

Also, how much do you think I could pick up ET wise if I get a tuner, I was thinking about one of those SCT tuners, they seem well worth the money.

Order a sct xcal2 from Modular Powerhouse and they will load you up a custom tune. They will ask you exactly what you have and hook you up. They are very good with their mail order tunes. I drove my PI swapped car untuned for several months. I think you'll definately pick up some hp with a tune but more importantly fix your air/fuel mixture.

When I bought my car it had a jet chip in it, and then after I did the swap I was throwing lean codes. I took out the chip and never had any other problems, been running that way for about 6k miles. I am planning on getting a tune...whenever I get some extra cash.

so i'm probably doing fine as far as the stock system keeping up with fuel. I do run the 91 octane.

I'm definately looking into getting a flasher, probably the SCT one everyone is talking about, sounds like a great mod to make. :hail2:

After the swap, I ran mine for a while with no tune and had no issues, but I did gain a little bit after the tune [about 1/2 a tenth]and a little more if I switched to the advanced timing tune[roughly a tenth]. Also the tune smoothend out the idle a bit.

thanks Canada, I owe you two now. You probably don't remember, but about 3 months ago I had hit you up for some part numbers to get the PI swap done, mainly head casting numbers for Romeo and Windsor heads and such.

Thanks for the help!

 Ok yup, now I remember! Hope I steered you in the right direction.
Are you happy with the swap so far? Did you do the work yourself?

oh yea, completely happy with the car, went from 16's to probably 14's, will find out saturday at the 1st test and tune. Yea, i did the swap myself, I am a tech at the local ford garage.

The total swap cost was $600.00, but I had the hookup on the intake, got a new one for $20.00. heads from ebay for $130.00+$120.00 for machine work on them. rest is heater tube, fluids, ect.

Car is 1000% stronger, pulls way hard up top, and it's all just stock PI stuff, cams, ect. I plan on a tuner and cams next.
