Picked up the car today

After a week of painful waiting, the 4.10s and pulleys are installed.

I drove like a total grandma on the way home, so I don't really know the full potential of these new mods. But I definitely felt a huge difference, definitely.

There is a lot gear whine though, the guy said it was totally normal. When I decelerate, and take the foot off the gas, that is when its the loudest. Will this go away? I'm guessing the gears are just settling in. The gear whine gets pretty loud, but no biggie, I'll just put on some music.

Lol, and my speedometer is way off, its double what I'm actually going. I need to get it recalibrated.

i would take it back to the shop and complain about how they whine, if they say its normal tell them its :bs:

alot of people have gear whine, i dont think it will cause any problems, but why live with it if you can have it fixed for free....

congrats on your new gears :D

i heard that loud gear whine is caused by incorrect backlash on the pinion gear... i know a guy who has whine for about 5000 miles now and is ok... i know a guy who put about the same mileage and ate up his gears...so you decide how normal it is, and oh ya, to a certain extent it is normal because i know ford racing gears have a reputation for having "little gear whine" opposed to other brands, so i guess it could go either way...

There shouldn't be a LOT of whine, but as you get lower in the ratios they will tend to make some more noise.

The fact that it took a week to do and they are making as much noise as you say, makes it sound like they were not done correctly or by a competent installer.

I would bring them back ASAP. The noise absolutely will not get quieter, and depending on how bad they are, will get louder as they wear!

why were you driving like a granny  ? Gears dont require a break in period just let em rip.

As far as the wine its hit or miss, depends on how good the install was. I have a set of 3.55 FRPP Gears that I got off Ebay for $100, they had about 10,000 miles on them and I have no whine at all since they have been put it. Then again maybe the exhaust was to loud to hear it :D

NO You should not romp on them for atleast 200 miles to let them properly set. And if your hearing gear whine, bring it back. There are alot of adjustments that could be off and will severly affect the life of your rear. It will be well worth it when you can drop the pedal and slam you passneger into the seat while smoking the competition.
:nice:
