Pics of '69 Convertible

First time posting pics of the convertible. I drove it to Northern AZ over the weekend and took some pics overlooking Strawberry. The car runs great and easily passes all the import cars as they desperatly try to climb the mountains. Athough I quit laughing after my first stop at the gas station.

The car was in fairly good shape when I bought it (about six coats of paint were protecting the body). There was virtually no rust and the undercarriage was like new. It had been sitting for probably 15 years, the top and interior were rotted, and it was missing some parts. Its a 351 4bbl, FMX, standard interior with console, disc brakes, and 60k original miles. I replaced the GT wheels with 15in mag 500's i found sitting covered up in a barn.

Gorgeous!! Have you considered putting on an airdam on your car. It will make a huge difference atleast it did on mine. Keeps the car from lifting up when you drive, really made a big change.

Very nice.
It seems there are very few 69-70 convertibles around.
Does anyone know the production number comparisons for these years compared to the earlier models?

How are parts for these cars to come by?

I really like your collection. I have a '69 fastback but it's really a drag car... having a drop top version of the same car would be exceedingly cool. You guys that live out west and south are killing me. If I found that car in storage after 15 years around here it would be rotted out up to the door handles!

I’m surprised no one got it... its candy apple red (AKA "resale red"). I painted it acrylic enamel because I’ve always thought clear coat isn't very deep. Thanks for the compliments; I agree that the west is the place to find cars. I found my '69 mach 1 sitting in a Michigan field. There were no floors, the quarters were long gone, and the rockers had about ten cans of bondo in them. One of the springs broke through the trunk when I was towing it. Luckily I had a great body guy to do the work. Then there was my '56 olds convertible... sat 25+ years outside (also in Michigan) with the top gone.

There were 11,307 standard convertibles and 3,439 deluxe convertibles made in '69. In comparison, there were about 60,000 convertibles made in both '65 and '66. It's next to impossible to find a '69 or '70 convertible in a junk yard... I've seen them, but its rare. Parts aren't particularly difficult to find though.

I know there were about 1,600 deluxe convertibles in '70, of which mine is one, but don't know on the standard. But does that make mine especially valuable? no, the '70s convertibles have never really had a big bump in value - I imagine a '65-66 K-Code convertible had a higher production, but has a much higher value than a '70 deluxe. It's just not as recognizable as an icon. More restomod fun for me, though.

I'd have to disagree that they're easy. Easy compared to an AMC Rebel or something, but you try to find a NOS or new chrome convertible top boot trim piece. Lots of other examples, but you get the picture. It's getting better, but '69-70 in general and convertible specifically are hard to find parts for. Yeah, I know, '71-73 are even worse.

don't get me started on consoles.

oh yeah, I tried to collect lots of photos of '70 convertibles last year and here's the result. Might show you some color ideas if you're ever interested in changing it.:

it was originally acapulco blue... i'm not a huge fan of blue convertibles. the mach 1 was originally candy apple red, so it was cheaper to paint them both the same color.

I agree that parts for 69's are somewhat difficult find, but you can usually find everything on ebay. The problem is that parts are ridiculously expensive... at least when compared to 64-68. It seems that the demand for '69 and '70 mustangs has gone crazy... while the demand for some of the early stuff isn't quite as strong as it was 5 years ago (just my opinion).

haha, that's funny because i know where there is a a Rebel "MACHINE" sitting that i really want to buy, if only i had some money.

hey do you need a console for your car? i just happen to have a 70 deluxe console, it's a decent driver console but has had some 'glass work done underneath to strengthen it because it was apparently broken pretty bad at one time, but it's all there and actually looks really nice. let me know if you're interested

Sorry, I read this and then waffled for a bit. yep, I'm interested, pm sent. I have to warn you though, it's good that this one was broken because it *may* end up with a hole in the raised rear portion and a Lokar parking brake poking out over the woodgrain center . . . I couldn't bear to do that to a cherry console.

I love the way the 69 -70 verts look, ever since seeing a club (read 4) together at a car show in Coos Bay OR for Cruise the Coos. There was a green one that made me go

The first four is of a deluxe 70 vert that i had a loan taken out and trailer ready to go until the guy called the day i was leaving and said someone stopped by and offered him more than we agreed upon at $8k. Before i took out the loan I asked him where i needed to send a deposit to and he said that a deposit wasn't needed and it was a done deal, that was until someone drove by and offered him more. Pretty pissed about that still but i found my 70 mach with fresh paint and all for $5k (over double the NADA book value of the vert) The last pic is just a random pic i found on my computer. Not too wild about the rear stance of the car though. These pics won't be hosted very long so save them if you want.
