My wheels I have on my car are the generic slotted mags and they dont want to seal too well. I'm wanting some new wheels that will work better and something cheap...oh sure I'd love some 454s but that aint gonna happen. I'm thinking of some black wagon wheels...just the 40-50 dollar ones you can get from summit, etc...I had a photoshop done in the virtual body shop w/ them on my car but I still dunno. I figured it'd be good for the transam style look. Anyone have any pics? I know it sounds bad but sometimes a black wagon wheel equals badass factor+.

at least do the modular wheels instead of the wagons. you can get the d hole rims too. What about plain steel wheels with moon discs? What about aluminum Ranger wheels?

On the contrary , I've got a set of Aluminum wagon wheels on my 68 Merc, they look great after painting the centers black and polishing the rims.

That seems a somewhat ignorant statement...no flame intended on that but look at alot of track cars...they run black wagon wheels like those posted in the link above. They are fairly strong wheels, and cheap. You don't see Nascar vehicles running 17" Torque Thrusts and Edelbrock 409s do you? The track cars look pretty badass...I could see maybe on a car w/ a bright color that wouldn't look too hot but my car's nightmist blue so I think a black wagon wheel might look pretty tough on it...and cheaply built hillbilly 4x4? My '77 F-150 looks tough as nails w/ a set of beadlock black wagon wheels on it...alot meaner than if it had some fancy Mickey Ts or Weld wheels. And once again...keep in mind...I'd like some bling....but...i'm a poor SOB right now and about to start school at the Nascar Tech in mooresville...$140 brand new seems like a right dandy price for even wheels like that when what I have aint worth crap. Hadn't thought much on the steelies w/ dogdish caps...I might try that w/ the ones off my '71.

I used to have the black AR wheels on my Mach. They were inexpensive, held up well, and when with the badass street rogue attitude of the car, in its multi-colored patchy paint and stripped bare interior. That said, I don't thing they would fair as well on a nice looking clean street car, unless it was built very vintage Trans Am style. As an alternative, check out something like Center Line overstock . They've got some really excellent prices on some nice wheels.

Anyway, the only pics I've got of my Mach with the black AR wheels are these lousy ones.

Not specifically those wheels but you don't see nascars w/ any bling to them. And you don't see any track cars w/ wagon wheels...ahem http://www.mustangsplus.com/race/car_904/index.htm look at most of Mustangs Plus's hardtop...almost everytime you see it she's wearin black wagon wheels. B/c they are once again strong, cheap, and if you get some curb rash...no worries of ruining your 300 dollar wheels...a can of rustoleum and you're on the road again. Got an overhead gunrack,btw... ok not really but it'd be a conversation piece wouldn't it?

In the years I spent at roundy-round tracks (both dirt and asphalt) all over Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana, I've seen just about everything fail. Axels, driveshafts, spindles, control arms, etc., but I've NEVER seen anyone break a Bart wheel. And if you don't like the colors they can easily be refinished any way you want them.

Just a thought.

Ive seen the aluminum wagon wheels cleaned up and youre right they do look nice. I suppose I jumped the gun on my comments as what tiresmoknwindsr was interested in and the wheel I percieve as a wagon wheel realistically are not the same thing. The Bart type wheels( with the right tire combo) can be a tough looking combination. However when someone asks about a wagon wheel I cant help but think of an old mustang with a set of half rusted spoke wheels with a set of white letter snowtires mounted on them.

TT, I was thinking the same thing you were, I really think TSW was really talking about the stock car wheels and not wagon wheels, his terminology is different than our, and I still think that what we call wagon wheels looks terrible on a Mustang. That's my opinion and yes I have a bellybutton. I think the stock car wheels, however, look awesome on the right car and I'm considering them for my race wheels while I'll use a set of minilites for road wheels on my Trans Am type restomod on my '65 coupe.

Anyone else have any other pics? Right now I'm basically looking at the *stock car* wheels. I think it might could look good w/ some Radial T/As, white-letters out.

These are Diamond Racing wheels in 16x8. Pete Paulson also carries some nice steel wheels with backspacings that will fit the early Mustang

Hey billgear those look purdy badass on there. I kinda want a 16" for sidewall flex improvements....but would that work w/ drum front brakes and no shelby drop or anything?

Those would work on a drum brake car. That particular wheel is not really for street driving (not DOT approved). The size should fit though 16x8 with 4.5 BS. Might need to roll your fender edges for the 225/50 that are on the car.
