My thing is just think of the work that went into it? Not to mention money if the parts were not free. Can you imagine tearing down the quarter mile with those stacks?
If it's cheap chromed steel it will, but if it's true polished stainless it shouldn't.
I gotta admit, I like obnoxious exhaust. If they made a 4" tailpipe for our cars, I'd be all about it. I also think a quad-pipe would be cool on our cars, if somebody found a way to pull it off.
#1 is not realistic, and #2 is what I have now and am unhappy with.
TRBOFOX, That car is fantastic! From the paint, to the undercarriage, that is a lot of time and a ridiculous amount of attention to detail. The tailpipes are unique and I admire them from a technical perspective. Doing that would also accomplish my desire to reduce the noise and run the exhaust to the rear of the car. But, and I might be wrong, I don't think that looks as good as the Macs from the outside of the car. Also, I'm not so sure that running the pipes under the axle is the best idea on the street.
That said, with the 11"+ wheels, and the rear work I'm doing, I might need to do something like that to get it all to work. Thanks for the idea.

Besides being illegal where I live (not that is matters), why don't you like the dumps? Noise? Fumes? Both?

I've got three inch pipes on my lx and they dont look terrible .. but whoever did the work didnt get the angle right. Its a really tight fit the way they are installed, especially with 10 inch wheels out back. I kinda halfway think it was a custom job..I plan on replacing them one day because for me, as mentioned, proper angle is everything.. unfortunately, I have more important items to address now.

I've really thought about that, actually. I think with the right fascia it could be pulled off, just like on that M5, but to get it right, I think it would require fascia that's not on the market and swapping the fuel tank to one that's smaller. I haven't had a vision that's right yet.
#1 by far: Noise is WAY too loud. For the turbos I'm running, I need the freest flowing straight through mufflers available that still provide some semblance of noise reduction, which I selected Dynomax Ultraflow Race Magnums for, aka Ultraflow Welded (not Race Bullets). The problem is, as you know, just as when you drive by a concrete wall and it amplifies the sounds from the side of your car back into your ears, blasting the exhaust into the ground or off of your undercarriage into the ground allows it to be reflected and soaked up by the floor panels and really the entire cabin of the car. That's ok for a race car, or something that you want to sound obnoxious with, but that's not my style at all. So beyond just having dumps, my specific setup makes the situation much worse. I raced a buddy in a stock LS3 vette one day. After blowing his doors off with the tires spinning, he pulled back up with his fingers in his ears lipping, "oww." Later he joked that he didn't lose, the sound of my car beat his into submission
It was funny, and I can enjoy the sound in moments like that, but otherwise it's not much appreciated.2: Fumes aren't bad, but when the car runs rich, and I admit I have considerably more tuning to do, especially at lower speeds, black smoke ends up coating everything. Would be nice if it were just directed out of the back of the car instead of all over the undercarriage, fuel tank, my fuel filter and Weldon pump. Just looks bad.
3: I genuinely miss and prefer the look of the tailpipes on the LX. On a GT the aesthetics wouldn't be as big a deal, but the LX just looks like its missing something to me.
we are actually a nitrous car... we have the headers up there for 2 reasons. it gets them out from under the car and if we go to a blower down the road we can put a bull horn on it to help keep nose down

I just moved down here about a year and half ago. I live in a new subdivision off lake silver dr (past the high school of 85). I love it down here so far, we are a lot happier than we were in NC.

Oh yeah I knew you guys were a nitrous car, duh I guess I had a brain fart at the time. I like the video with it shooting a flame out the exhaust. Did you ever find the cause? Or did it effect the performance.
FastDriver I'm actually surprised your car is so loud. Your currently turbo charged right? The turbo should quiet it a bit plus you are already running mufflers. Do you have a waste gate on the exhaust side by passing the turbo?

nah... never caused any problems.
we are down for the season though. melted a piston before the big yellow bullet race tore it down to replace the piston found the sleeve was melted pretty good. got that back then found a crack in the crank. we have the new crank here we will be out testing after the shakedown at Etown and make a plan for the car after that.
Off of Airport rd, or on the opposite side of 85? I think the new stuff was on the opposite side... on the left past the high school. Are you working on Eglin?
Yes, and yes, though a WG doesn't allow exhaust to bypass the turbo until the boost comes up to whatever the WG/EBC is set at. So, at normal speeds, the exhaust all travels through the turbine. With my old twin-turbo setup, what you're saying is really true. However, perhaps because this is a GT42, which has a damn big turbine housing for a 76mm turbo, the air is not as muffled by it.

Yeah I work on Eglin. Opposite side of 85 past old bethel rd. Ever moving back? We built a house there so eventually we can come back when I retire. Can't wait!
It was less about the straight cut and more about the gay flare where they go from 2.5 to 3 inch..it's just stupid looking. If you're going to fake it and run 3 inch tailpipes when you have a 2.5 inch exhaust, they should at least be 3 inches up over the axle where you can't see.
