Heads ar warped perhaps. At very least you forgot to drain coolant before you took them off. lol.

Ok maybe i missed something but i'll bite the hook anyways....maybe it has to do with the chunk missing between the 1 and 2 combustion chambers???? That usually puts a damper on things. Or is that just your head gasket i'm looking at? Or did you have a blown head gasket?

**** I didnt even notice that. Yea i just looked at the heads and there is a big chunck missing between those two chambers. The gasket is on the block and there is no gasket piece between those two either.
This most likely would meen I would have to buy a rebuilt engine right?? unless I buy new heads but whats the point

well, it looks like its blown out between 1-2 and 5-6...but thats just me. it actually looks like part of the head is gone between two cylinders on the first pic of the head

IF the rest of the motor is ok you could get by with just replacing the heads with even stockers if you just wanna get it driving. You might need to pull it apart and inspect things and make sure the bores are all clean....that piece of head had to go somewhere...i'm surprised the pistons aren't beat up. What did the car do leading up to this?

Just buy a set of stock E7 heads from the classifieds for $50-100. Just get the car running first and then take your time and build a nice motor later. Spur of the moment build ups never turn out great.


BTW, you might want to keep all this in the same thread. The guys who didn't read your other thread are missing some vital info and have no idea what your situation is really

It was overheating like crazy. i couldnt go 5 minutes without having to fill up the radiator. I was going to replace the head gaskets but looks like I will need a little more.

i wish I could get that motor but its a little to pricey for me. I can get a rebuilt/remanufactured stock 302 for about $1000. Then maybe later Ill put on some GT40s or do some other internal upgrades.

Maybe you shoudl call up the original owner and ask him why the heads were missing huge chunks out of them.

Wow but wasn't the car smoking all to hell and back? It should have been pouring white smoke out the pipes because it was burning all that coolant out the cylinders.

it was smoking a little bit but not to hell and back. It might have been because i wasnt going to fast and my rpms never really went above 2000. It bogged and overheated too much.

if you go with the new heads....1st go over the block closely and look for cracks before buying anything. I didn't see any from the pics but you don't want to waste cash if the block is hosed.

For people not following 1FatPony's previous thread, here it is:

I personally wouldn't just throw a set of rebuilt heads on that bottom end, unless money's really tight and you need to drive the car soon.

Your best bet would be to buy a rebuilt engine from a reputable rebuilder. NEVER BUY A SCHUCKS (checker, kragen, depending on location) REBUILT ENGINE!!!!!

A used engine would be a good option. Check on Craigslist and you might be able to find a wrecked 'stang where you can hear the engine run before you buy it. You could also get a motor out of a V8 explorer, they already have GT40P heads and a good intake.

I am amazed that thing even ran...you would have absolutely no compression in those two cylinders and coolant everywhere. I've never seen anything like it. Personally i would drag that $h/t back to the guy you bought it from! get your money back
