The real point here is that you don't pay extra to buy a more unique car, and then remove the stuff that makes it more unique.

You could almost use your theory in reverse on yourself:

Why would you buy a cheapo LX and then put "High dollar" asthetic components on it to make it look like it cost more?

Since you don't like saleens, why would you pay extra to get one? This is really a hypothetical question that you really can't answer because you would never buy the car in the first place.

I think you could of bit a bit nicer and said you would never buy a saleen, so you really don't care.

My Saleen is an 88 T-top hatch.

Who said I didn't like Saleens, I love them. Their appeal is in the suspension, although mine won't even have that when it gets put back together.

BTW, I would never pay extra, just because it's a Saleen. I will pay only what I want for any car of any type, or I will move on. Some people place value on names, I place value on style and quality.

First off, i purchased the car done like this in 93 (when i was 17 and could not come anywhere near affording a real one), second off, your theory makes no sense. Listen to what you said "to make it look like it cost more". You get a "high dollar" asthetic look, for less money. The real question would be why wouldn't you?

Think about it, in the same sentence you asked the question, you also answered it.

Take an 05 saleen for example, costs about $45,000, but you can build your own for like $35,000.

Now reverse the theory back again, you buy a $45,000 car, then make it look like a $25,000 car.

Which makes more sense to you?


WLDhorse, no point in using a real saleen to get it's suspension, their suspension parts are'nt that great anyway. Above average, yes, but better can be purchased for less or equal.
You take the rims and decals away, add a hood, and you really don't have much of a saleen, so not sure why you would like them.

Me personally, i like the styling the most.

You totally missed my point. Let me explain it for you. I was saying that it is "your" opinion not to buy a Saleen and then replace peices that are not liked.

In the same manner that you think removing Saleen factory parts is a bad thing to do, you could say that it is not right to add other pieces to an LX that did not come factory. That would be the wrong thing to do in the same manner of thinking you are showing here.

If you are putting parts on a car to make it look like it cost more, you are a poser. It should be about buying parts you like, not to impress someone making them think you spent dough on the "real deal".

On a side note, I really like the looks of your car, as well as I like the car in this original post. It's all about personal preference. No one should be here sitting at a computer telling someone their buddy is stupid for taking off parts they don't like.

And who ever said this guy doesn't have all of the original parts. I see no signs of modification to the body or any other irreversable damage. So really, who cares. If the guy likes it, who cares. When you see one of these completely restored Shelby's or Boss's going for big dollars, obviously no one cared that it could possibly be filled with aftermarket parts, or GOD forbid bondo. In 10-20 years when these Saleens are going for big bucks, this guy could easily find the remaining parts he may need for a resto. That car that I saw would not really be worth much now anyway. $13,000 is chump change in the collector car industry. (I would easily take it for my car, but it's still chump change in the collector car world).

See, you are missing my point, i don't dislike the original car either. But if it was originally real, you took a limited edition car and made it look generic. IMO you never mess with the outside of a limited production car. Especially with parts from a car that is the competition for it, such as a cobra in this case.

It's kinda like wearing a dallas cowboys hat, and a philadelphia eagles jacket.

But this guy probly has the stock stuff and what's a stripe to put back on and a sticker in the front bumper and the rims are probly sitting in his basement.
This guy makes a sh-it load of money like 2-3G a day so he just wanted a nice car so he bought it (probly a Fox fan)Him and his buddy has there own buisness doing paintless dent removal...they travel where there was a hail storm and fix every car on the dealer's lot's and then get a few weeks of people of the street getting dents fixed. Think about how sweet that would be. the avarage car that was on the lot and the insurance company pay's them 400-600 per car or more depending how many dents and think how many cars the average dealer has and it's all cash.
