I just installed a Summit aluminum radiator over the weekend. I think some people here were interested in seeing some pictures of this radiator installed in an SN95.

The radiator is SUM-380428 (19"x28"x3"). The fan is bolted to the flange on the top of the radiator, and I had to cut a few inches off of the top and bottom radiator hoses to get them to line up. I also bent the flange on the bottom of the radiator (the one facing the front of the car) so that the side tanks would sit flush on the rubber grommets at the bottom. The bracket for the overflow bottle bolted right back up with no modifications. I still need to clean things up a bit (neat up the wires, replace the zip ties with angle brackets), and I think I'm gonna have to cut a little off the radiator cover so I'll have access to the radiator cap.

I've been driving it around a few days and it's working great so far. The temp dropped from A to O. Anyway, enough jabbering, on with the pictures.

Yes, there have been many request lately concerning this rad from summit thank for the pics it's people like you that make this place a great high way of info.
ps. I'm going to hold on to these pic for future use.

What is the distance from the waterpump pulley to the fan now? Just curious. Thanks for the pics!!!

It cools much better than my nearly 10 year old stock radiator. I was consistently running in the A-L range in city traffic and that was without the air on. Now it's running around the O. With the air on it gets up to the R, but once the fan kicks on it doesn't get any hotter. It was really bugging me that it was running so hot, so I'm definitely happy with these results.


Paul - I'll measure the fan/water pump pulley clearance when I get home tonight, but as I recall it's something like 3/4".


rudeone - I haven't had any trouble getting the pictures to come up in the forum. I'm hosting them from my computer at school, so maybe there's some weird security issue causing trouble? If people are having trouble getting them, maybe I could find somewhere else to host them from?

It's maybe not as close as it sounds. The bit that's closest to the pulley is the CCRM (I think that's right - it's the thing from the fan recall), and it sits a little off to the side of the pulley. When I measure it tonight, I'll try to get a pic from an angle where you can actually see the separation.

I really can't say. I don't know what the differences are between a manual and an AODE (other than the transmission, obviously ), and I don't have an AODE handy to check. Maybe someone else knows?

I'm looking into this for my AODE... so good question. I have an aftermarket tranny cooler that I'm thinking of hooking up to the front of the summit radiator and using it as the only cooler.

This will wait til I get my Edge Racing Stall which is suppose to run cooler than a stock one.

I know the fox cars run their auto tranny cooler through the radiator, I will assume these cars are the same. so unless you have an aftermarket cooler for the tranny, this one wont work

I measured the distance from the water pump pulley to the CCRM, and it is indeed 3/4". The closest point is one of the silver relays (?) on the CCRM (the wiring harness is actually above the pulley). If the CCRM wasn't there, there would actually be about 2" of clearance. If you needed that space, maybe you could splice the CCRM into the wiring harness somwhere further upstream?

Anyway, here's a pic:

By the way, does anybody know what the black plastic thing attached to the overflow bottle bracket is (the one with all the wires going to it)? I'm thinking about relocating it to the inner fender, but I'd like to at least know what it is before I go moving it around.

your a little confused, the CCRM is that black plastic thing attached tot he overflow bottle bracket. The object in the pic. is the fan motor not the CCRM.

^yes exactly what he said it's the CCRM, i've seen pics of it relocated into the passenger side fender and also some who mounted it under their air filter, either way you'll probably have to lengthen the three fan wires to get it to reach.

No, I know what the fan motor is (I had to replace it a few months ago when the bearings in the old one seized). Although, you're probably right and what I'm calling the CCRM isn't the CCRM. I was talking about the thing that they install for the fan recall (some sort of circuit breaker, right?). That's the thing nearest the water pump pulley. It's just plugged into the fan motor.

Anyway, thinking about it, I never was sure what the CCRM was, and for some reason, it got associated with the fan circuit breaker thing in my brain. Thanks for helping me clear that up.
