Pilot bearing

I have never changed one you guys got any tips??
There is a tool made for the removal of the bushing but I have always had good luck filling the hole up with grease and putting a dowel of the same diameter in the hole and giving it good smack with a hammer and it will just pop out. :nice:

Yip, that's what I do too!! Works slick!! :nice:

I changed mine, no fun to get out!

Cheap part but a bitch to remove and install. Make sure you have plenty of grease when installing to make life easier and it's all centered as you lightly pound it in (trying not to damage anything).

I used the ford tool when removing the pilot bearing in my step dad's stang. I replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing as well since it was apart. The thing that pissed me off with the tool is that there is a thin metal ring around the inside (i really dont know what its called), but I ended up just pulling pieces of that metal out at a time before I could get a good grip on the hard bearing itself. The whole process was a pain, but it did work eventually.

Also, per the ford manual, you are NOT supposed to lube the new bearing when you install it. They are pre-lubed from the factory.

If you are replacing the clutch, you should also have the flywheel turned. While the flywheel is off you can remove the pilot bearing much easier. All you need is a socket the same size as the bearing. Tap it out with a hammer. If you have the flywheel turned, have them replace it. I've always had the flywheel turned when adding new clutch parts. It will keep the clutch from "chattering" while taking off from a dead stop. Pearl02.
