My manual calls for the front cam bearing to be set back .005-.020 from the face of the block. After getting my block back from the shop mine is at .080. This is on an FE engine. Do I need to get this fixed?
If the shop was close by I would just take it back but its not.
It needs to be corrected, as the main oil gallery runs around the outer shell of the bearing, if I remember correctly. This is also true for all the other cam bearings too on a 390. The oiling holes have to be "clocked" correctly for proper oil flow in these engines. Find somone local that knows these engines and have the bearing installation checked before assembling the engine.
