A few months back I purchased a 92 Mustang GT w/ 88k on it.

sunroof/PW/PD/Auto/2.73's The interior is gorgeous and there is only one small dent on the right passenger side.

It already had an unknown o/r H, shorty headers, and flows. It also looks like the like the smog pump doesn't have a belt run to it.

My goal is to be able to run low 8's in the 1/8th...8.3 or lower and I'm happy and be able to give a stock C5 vette a run for it's money on a road course. so shedding weight is my goal. I know I got the heaviest fox you could want, but around here everyone and their momma has a hatch LX and then their Dad has a notch lol.

I ran a 9.7 last week with a 2.35 60' w/ very little spin. But it's hard to have any kind of launch on some crappy 215's lol.

Engine - I'd like to do an aluminum H/C/I combo at some point, nothing to aggressive. And the supporting mods to go with it. Also down the road when this 302 goes I'd like to replace the iron block with an aluminum one.

Transmission - It's got the auto right now...but when it goes I'll probably drop a TKO 500 in there. But for now I have a buddy who works at PTC and he can get me the hook up on a converter.

Suspension - The Maximum Motorsports Maximum Grip package is looking mighty nice.

Brakes - I'm fixing to start looking for a wrecked 94+ to go 5 lug and disc with possibly Mach 1 brakes.

Comments are appreciated. I'm new to the 5.0 and fox. I've had an 01 GT and an 03 Mach 1. But I couldn't justify modding the heck out of a new car...or the expense of the parts.

Mach 1 + Blower + Tune = $28k

Mach 1 w/ Stock Aluminum block & 1/4 tank of gas = 3450 lbs + Stock brakes = okay stopping

Mach 1 w/ SC & stock suspension wouldn't be close to a c5 vette on a road course, the straigt(if it's long enough) might make it look 'better' than what it was though.

And if the Mach decideds it doesn't like the SC, looks like I'll be hoof'n it for awhile.

------

92 GT + H/C/I + Tune + MM Max. Grip = $13k

92 GT w/ Stock Iron block & full tank of gas = 3300 lbs - (H/C/I) - (Max Grip) = ?3225? lbs

And if the GT decides it doesn't like the H/C/I, I wont be hoof'n it. I'll get in my 3k beater ranger I just purchased.

-----

I'm not trying to sound like an ass. But that's how I'm looking at it.

My goal isn't a drag car by any means I just want a descently quick car that can handle and isn't just like every other car around. The only fox GTs you see around here are pretty much junkers and all the foxes are drag cars.

No, your numbers are good, just that the fox isn't the best platform for turning or stopping. Most guys just wanna go straight, and these do that really well. The dough you woulda spent on the Mach(which I love, by the way) you could very well spend on the fox, and the Mach, even though heavier, had a much lower center, just a better handling animal. The LX/GT thing, mostly just a preferrance thing. Coupla hundred pounds of plastic air dams was never my thing, the serious drag racers just like the weight thing. I like simple, old school stuff. Reminded me of the 68 Roadrunner when I got my first, in 87. Everyone and their mother had some kind of factory body kit, LX had little chrome emblems and two big tailpipes! Hey, your parts sound good to me for what you wanna do, let us know how its going!

Also, the C5 is just kinda a target, my real competition is my neighbor across the street. A year ago he purchased an 80ish Z28 that he just dropped in a LT1 from a Vette. It's not running yet due to he's been working 7/12's for 4 months now, so I don't have any numbers from him to know what to aim for.

That's really who I want to beat.

Leave the engine stock, get a turbo system for it, then work on suspension.
