Plastic burning on my X-Pipe. Help!

Hey guys, I ran over a plastic bag and that thing is melting like crazy on my X-pipe. It smells like hell and gives me a headache. I know that time will burn the plastic and the smell will be gone. No big deal. My main concern is that it looks like crap all over my new X-pipe. It turns black and looks like *****. What can I do to remove all that gunk off my pipe?

just try scraping it off with a scraper or screwdriver or something. that is what i did last time.

When the car is completely cooled down (let it sit overnight), you can get it off with brake cleaner and some cloth rags. Spray the cloth, not the pipe. Some 0000 ("four aught") steel wool will work nicely, too, with the brake cleaner. Keep the brake cleaner off your paint because the cleaner will attack the paint very quickly. And make sure you have lots of ventilation -- you don't want to breathe in the fumes! (You'll need gloves, too).

I had the same problem. I took my cordless drill and got a round wire brush attatchment. It helped removed the burnt plastic quickly.

Depends on how serious you want to get. You could use a buffing wheel on a grinder. That will take it off real easy.

I don't remeber the last time I put my car up on two wheels or pulled a Dukes of Hazzard jumping over the “Boars Nest”, where everyone got a look at my undercarriage, anyway? It's gonna get a lot dirtier than that before long. Consider this breaking the cherry. Man, some people complain about the silliest things some times.

Just get an aluminum or steel bristle brush like the ones you clean a grill with and scrub it off.

Don’t get your balls in a bunch LaserRed, I’m just playing and as a matter of fact, I don’t rank on anyone in particular, I just hate people in general. Nobody gets special treatment from me. I would use a solvent and steel wool to remove the plastic bag. Brake Cleaner I believe has an ether in it and should work nice. Also acetone will work.

Same thing happened to me last week and it's still burning off...my solution revolves mainly around ignoring it...but soon my custome X welded behind stock cats will be replaced by an O/R Mac H
