I'm looking to paint the black cowl before the windshield along with some of the plastic interior pieces. Just looking for some helpful hints as to how to prepare the plastic and such. For the outside piece I was just gonna have my friends dad spray it with a can cuz he's really good with them from models and such. Then for the inside pieces I was gonna get the interior paint. But I'm just not sure of like the arm rests how to prep them becuase it seems they have like a sligth rubber coating on them. So any info would be great. Thanks

For the interior plastic...theres 2 ways...if it has texture and you want to leave the texture...wash it really well with dawn dishwashing soap.
If you want it smooth use really fine sandpaper and lightly sand it smooth all over...then wash really well with dawn.
After washing... using (PLASTIC PAINT...i like Krylon) spray them, i go all really thin layers...but you can do the first 1 or 2 layers thin, then 3 coat you can spray a little heavier. When you're done painting i always spray 1 or 2 coats clear coat depending on where it'll be etc.
*Make sure you get interior or I prefer Krylon plastic paint, or it wont stick.

Personally I wouldnt mess with the Krylon stuff, but I guess some don't mind. Its not very tough stuff.. But for the cowl cover, that doesn't get any real contact or abuse, im sure it would do fine.
As he said, make sure its real clean.. So pick up some laquer thinner, and rub it down, to remove any grease/grime. Blow it off with an airhose, and spray away.. First coat is your tack coat and must be sprayed on lightly, to insure all other coats stick well. Spray on a few coats and you shoudl be good to go. If you want to insure the paint sticks, you can always spray adhesion promoter before your base coat/s.
Personally I use SEM paint, which works awesome, but is slightly more expensive then Krylon. I get mine from the local paint supply shop in either spray bombs, or by the quart (and spray it on with gun)

I didnt prime my cowl plastic... I just sat it out after I got done with the rear bumper on the bottom where it is black... and hit it. Just cleaned it. I didnt even sand it. Just washed it down with laquer thinner, then hit it with paint. Then I mixed my clear coat and hit it before I did my car. Man is it shiny now.
