When you lower back pressure you move the powerband up in the RPM range.

i just switched from a MAC offroad H to an SLP catted X ...much quieter (especially because of the packs) but the car actually feels a tiny bit faster with some back pressure

the SLP Catted X is noticeably louder than the stock H also.

and now i'm finally able to smash the pedal to the floor and have it not sound like a drive by shooting.

The difference:

No Cats = Less backpressure, louder, more HP/Less torque

With Cats = More backpressure, quiter, less HP/more torque

I went from stock H with no mufflers to UPR o/r X with stock mufflers.

Stock, grunt down low, didnt open up a can of whoop ass up top or anything, but felt good.

UPR o/r X and stock mufflers. Still allright down low for a 4.6, little less... but get up in the RPM's and it opens right up, it feels like it pulls a bit more than the stock h and no mufflers.

Have you had to smog test your car yet with the catted SLP x pipe? I am wondering because i am considering buying one but was scared that i would not pass smog even if it was catted.

Even another scenario that I considered ( not to hijack ) but what about an
x pipe with the stock cats still in place. anyone try that........

So by replacing your o/r to a catted stopped the machine gun sound? I think I will have to do that. Mine sounds like that with my LMIIs and UPR X when I stomp on it, other than that sounds great.

yep as soon as you throw some cats on there, the machine gun/backfiring blasts stop and all you hear is the tone

but i miss having the loudest stang on the road

nah i wouldnt do that. that would just be too much work and probably end up costing you just as much as buying an aftermarket catted x....and still having the crappy stock cats cloggin up the exhaust flow.
