Last night driving my '99 cobra, i took off in first and brought it up to about 6700 rpm pretty drawn out. When i slowed down right away the engine hesitated, seemed to miss, and ran extremly rough. After goosing the throttle for about 20 seconds It stopped wanting to die and just idled horribly. I gave it gas and took it about a block or two to the local gas station, and the whole time it misfired quite a bit. When i stopped, it ran a little better but still much rougher than usual. I popped the hood to reveal a knocking/ticking sound. I originally thought it was a rocker or lifter, than realized it was coming from around the crank pulley area, not the heads area. I shut off the car and turned it back on and it still did it. Than i revved the engine to about 3500 to 4000 rpm and when it settled, the ticking/knocking stopped, the engine shook a tiny bit and than it miracously idled like normal. I've beat on the car before and it's never done that. After that i drove around all night with no problem at all. The only thing i can think of is if oil stopped circulating well under such a load or that the traction control system (which was on) messed with the timing or something. I'm really not sure and i just recently bought the car. Please try and help because i just bought this car and I hope it's not a serious problem. i've put about 500 miles on the car and numerous hole-shots without the least bit of problem. As far as i can tell this cobra is in superb mechanical condition, but that whole ordeal just got me thinkin. Please tell me if im just making a big deal out of a fluke.

sounds like you may have spun a bearing.......drain the oil and look for metal shavings in the oil and/or filter.

Im not sure if it was mechanical though because a minute later it was fine and drove great all night, even under heavy load
