I am buying a set of 42lb injectors from my performance shop and the guy ordered me a C&L 80mm MAF for my 95 cobra (all stock except v1 strim/power pipe, exhaust) with correct calibration tube?? Does this sound right- I would have rather had a Pro-M but the company said it would take at least 3 weeks to get one matched for my Cobra. This guy said the C&L would work just fine with no tuning problems. I'm stressed and worried about all of this. Please give input-No engine mod plans or anything planned in the future. Will this setup work well? (I know I will have to get a dyno tune after the installs) Any driving issues with my stock computer and these changes after the tune??

thanks guys

Won't really know until you try it. Personally I wouldn't put a C&L meter on my N/A car let alone blown application.

It will need to be tuned for sure. If you can get it to even idle with 42's on the stock EEC you've peformed a miracle. My car ran so rich (when it stayed running) it would shoot fuel out the tailpipes.

I only pass on this info but I do remember this happening.

One of our members ... I only remember his name was Travis

He had a blown combo and never could get his C&L with 36's or maybe it was 42's working like they should.

He went with a ProM 80 & 42's along with a chip burn.
All was good after that.
If you wanna search it was around May, June or maybe July I think.

Lately, several peeps have gone with the Lightning Maf as was said above.
I've heard of no bad results with the Lightning meter other than it will peg at around 1726 kg/hr and will most likley peg before 500hp.

Good Luck

Ok, I talked with Professional Mass Air Systems (formerly Pro-M) and they said I should use the 95 cobra specific 80mm unit because my cobras computer was different and a GT meter wouldn't work. It would take like 3 weeks to get it though is the only downside. I looked at the lightening meter and it was only $99. What is up with that? What would you guys do? Any 94/95 cobra owners input who have upgraded their maf would be great.

The Lightning meter would work well, but you'd need a filter adapter, cone filter, silicon tube adapter and late model pigtail and a tune with it, so that'd drive the cost up. But OEM MAFs tend to have the best driveability. We have an article on using late model (LMAFS and SCT MAFs) in the tech section of our website - see sig for links.

So, if you were in my shoes, would you go with the SCT meter you mentioned or the cobra specific pro-m one?

Neither, I get the $99 90mm Lightning MAF - but if you will be making 450-500 RWHP - the SCT MAF would be the choice.

So if I get the 90mm one at buyfordracing.com could someone point me in the direction of the "other" things that I would need. Is this meter going to be that much better than the C&L one the shop (Custom Performance in NC.) is sending me? That guy swears the C&L will serve me fine but from listening to you guys is sounds differently

After thinking, I am going to try the C&L since I allready paid for it-but I am going to get the LMAF as well and take it with me to the tuners (which is 3hrs away) that way if the c&l acts funny, I will have the other on hand ready to install. Let me know what you all think.

If you use Don's name in a search in this fourm, you'll find the info you seek. He has given the details of the Lightning maf install on our cars many times before.

You have to be careful about some of the stuff you see on these forums. The guy Travis (Striped5.0) who had issues with the C&L. Could have been many different things which caused the prob and that is why I gave your his name.

Used to be, you saw very little bad about the ProM 77 & 80 and did not have to look very hard to find threads where peeps had all kinds of probs with C&L.

Now days, it seems that things are a bit reversed from that situation due to things I've seen over the past several months on these forums.

Don, who is a Pro Tuner btw, has talked about this a time or two before and a search using his name will give you the info. It goes without saying, Don is in the position to have more exposure to this stuff than the average guy on these forums so when he shares info, I usually pay attentition.

Some of the Guys on the tuner site have had good results and recommend the C&L mafs.
