Please help me identify my rear brake set up !

I recently bought a wrecked 92 Lx for parts, it has a sweet motor with a gt40 intake etc. It also has a rear axle with 3.55s and rear discs.. this made me think it maight me the 93 cobra rear. However, the more I look at it, the more it looks to me like a conversion to discs from drums.

Here are some pics, the calipers say Ford, Varga and 2210 on the rear. I've tried googling them but had no luck. Does it look like the Ford Motorsport conversion from the early 90's to anyone, that master cylinder is what makes me think that, and the brake likes over the axle.

There's also a Kelsey (sp?) proportioning valve over by the passengers side. Looks to me like the bracket holding it has a ford stamp and a part number, but its been painted.

An ideas what this lot might be from. If its from the ford kit then thats cool as I think that was thunderbird SC stuff, which means i can order rotors and pads. If its a cobra rear end I'm gonna have to see if it will even fit my 88GT, lowered and with the Ford Racing cobra Rs (245/45/17s). The tire/fender gap looks pretty tight and the cobra rear is 0.75" wider each side....

I don't believe that Ford has ever made a 4 lug disc conversion kit. There are 3 possibilities that I can think of:

1. It's from a T-Bird....I think that this is the case.
2. It's from a Cobra
3. Ford did put 4 wheel discs in a handfull of cars....super rare. I've only seen it once. If this is the case it would be an SVO set up similar to what a Saleen might have and it would cause the axles to stick out 1.25 further per side. After looking at the pics though, it looks like a pretty good conversion and nothing factory.

Its a '93 Cobra/ 87-88 Turbo Coupe rear brake set up.

Definitely 87-88 TC rear end. You probably have either 3:73 or 3:55 gears. Unless they just did the axles, brackets, etc. That's a Lincoln or SVO master cylinder.

The discontinued Ford M-2300-C kits uses the same calipers and rotors from the 87-88 Turbo Coupe, but stock length axles. SSBC and other companies have picked up this Ford kit and sell them for about $600. If you can get the calipers and rotors, but not the axles or axle brackets, call North RaceCars for these brackets! These will allow you to use the stock length rear axles with the TC rear disc parts!

The picture I found of the kit 'looks' like what i have, and if everyone is saying that they're TC calipers it may well be the conversion as opposed to the whole rear end. Otherwise why would someone hve changed the MC too? I know you have to do a 3-2 port conversion, ut i thought that kept the stock MC

The picture I found of the kit 'looks' like what i have, and if everyone is saying that they're TC calipers it may well be the conversion as opposed to the whole rear end. When you go to rear disc you have to change the MC, it looks like they used an older MC instead of using a '93 cobra or the SN95 1-1/16; with those you need a 3-2 conversion. They might've changed the booster too, its hard to tell.

Without seeing the actual brackets that mount the calipers to the axle housing, I'd have to agree on the M2300C kit or SSBC kit. The housing looks like a stock Mustang one (with the short quad shock mounts, TC housings have taller mounts) so that makes me think stock axles.

I've seen the M2300C brackets, they are cast metal and have a Ford emblem on them. It could be a very old SSBC conversion since they tended to use the older SVO style MC in their kits. And they used an older style Combination Valve with the 3rd brake line to the rear of the CV.

Cobra/tbird rear disks.....put on a drum brake rear as seen by the zip=ties holding the brake lines on the car.

The MC is SVO and the prop valve is from a pre-87 Mustang

sweet... thanks guys... I should have no problem pulling that off and putting it under my 8GT then. I'll have to transfer everything i expect, lines, parking brake cables etc..

im planning on swapping over to the 5 speed, swapping motors out and doing the maf conversion all at the same time... could be a busy weekend !

oh.. and the valve coversare the ford racing ones, they're black with machined silver ribs and ford racing logo..
