Please help.. PLEASE. 2 different small problems with 95 gt

Ok its and 95 gt with 140k miles, first problem.... The throw out bearing is squealing but now it seems a little bit harder to shift and when neutral, instead of loose play on the shifter, it kinda hangs up when going towards 5th, clutch in and out. Dont know if something is breaking? or maybe something broke.

Second problem..... just started today, 50% on the time today when i coasted in neutral to stop from about 35 mph, the idle hangs at 2000 rpm until i am stopped for about 5 seconds, i know it should stay kinda high until a stop but this is lasting too long. i guess you would call it surging idle? i dont know but anything will help. Please

That throw-out bearing's going to get progressively worse, man. Mine had a squeal from HELL, but I was still able to shift in and out of gears the half mile I drove to work for a few days with it. As for the hanging idle, check your TPS voltage and adjust accordingly. There are plenty of good write-ups available on this site to run through the surging idle problems.

Get that tranny out and replace some things - not just the throw-out bearing, but you'll probably need a new bearing retainer, and now you may have damaged the actual clutch fork assembly, or the pressure plate. I've heard of people doing a lot of damage as a result of driving on a squealing TOB, but I may have just been lucky with my severe lack of damage other than an in-pieces TOB.

302GTS is exactly right on everything except one - the TPS. The 94-95 computers adjust for variance in the TPS, more so than the Fox's so they don't need to be adjusted. This does not mean that the TPS has not failed, just that it doesn't need to be adjusted.

I would recommend instead that you check for any vacuum leaks. Rubber hoses can crack and let in just enough air to cause problems. Once you're sure there are not vacuum leaks, go through and adjust your idle. This thread will help you with that.

Chythar, thanks for the reminder! After dealing with my TPS, I learned about the adjustment that the 94/95 computers can do. What I heard was that as long as you're below 1 volt, the TPS will work perfectly. Sorry to hijack though, cbrcolt. Keep everyone on here posted. The guys on this site have helped me through multiple problems with my 95, and there's no reason that it can't help you.

This forum tends to be a self-help forum. We'll help you troubleshoot problems and link to tutorials if they exist, or give as much advice as we can. As long as you're willing to tackle the job yourself you've found the right forum. :SNSign:

You can do a basic check for vacuum leaks, without any tools. Look for hoses that are cracking, flaking or plain broken. Also check how well the hoses fit - some of the hoses lose their flexibility and no longer grip well. If you can rotate a hose on its fitting or wiggle it around, it's letting extra air into the system.

Most auto parts stores carry rubber hose in bulk. You can use any rubber hoses to replace the rubber vacuum lines.

To test if a cracked hose is letting air in, start the car and squish the hose with your fingers. If the idle changes while you do this, it's letting air in and needs to be replaced.

Try this step first. If you're still having trouble with your idle, reset your idle with the instructions at the link I posted last time.

Actually on 94/95 anything below 1.2 volts is ideal. So I've been told by many a source

ok this is weird, nothing wrong now, i didnt test anything or nothing, it shifts fine and no idle surge. 2 days now. not saying its fixed but somethings different. ill post back if it happens again
