Slightly off topic, but..... let me add to this that any "competition" where a judge decides the winner is fundimentally flawed as evidenced by the judging scandal that rocked the figure skating world in the last Winter Olympics.
Drifting is NOT a sport. It never will be. It is, at best, an exhibition. Calling it a sport is a dis-service to to truly talented sportmen (and sportswoman) who really do compete in real motorsports and race their cars in events where their is almost always a clear winner, determined by quanitative results, not judgements. ie shortest time, fastest speed, first across the finishline, etc...
How about doing the opposite and putting a 5.0 into a Legend? Nice cars, nearly bought one once, but it didn't have enough power. Going from FWD to RWD can't be *that* hard...
I didn't know Legends came with H22's... thought they were all non-VTEC V6's, the H22 is a four, usually found in Preludes...
Anyway, I say if you're gonna do it, do it right and get the best Honda engine you can. Go with a d15a2 for mad power yo! For you guys not in the know, that's a carbed 1.5L from a late 80's CRX HF... with a whopping 76 hp / 84 tq.
...and on the topic of drifting, agreed that it's more an exhibition than a sport, but don't underestimate the skill level needed to be truly good at it. A good friend of mine from Japan is pretty involved in organizing D1 events over there, works at a shop that builds a lot of serious drift cars, and drifts his Silvia just for fun. The level of car control skills, not to mention the size of cojones one needs to even begin to be competitive at real drifting is no small feat...

Never said there wasn't any skill involved. You definitly need skill to be good at it. It is a talent. But it's not a sport.
Drifting is really just a small part of a real motorsport....rally racing. Watch a FIA World Rally race and you will see guys that can REALLY drive cars. 100 mph on tight twisting roads, in the woods, miles from civilization usually. Rally racing is not compatible with small venues like race tracks or Nascar, so they brought an exciting part of it into a samller venue, but how do you win? They went with judges and are trying to bill it as a "sport". It's not.
But it does involve great driving skills and good car preperation. I can't do a double backspin on my hockey skates...he'll I can barely play hockey for that matter, but figure skating requires skill and talent too, but it's still not a sport. Drifting is not a sport.
When you go to the races and they have the jet cars or wheelie cars, those are exhibitions. That's what drifting is. It's a sideshow to entertain between real motorsports racing.
Scrap that acura legend motor. Just cut out your floor boards and Fred Flinstone that ***** down the road. 1/4 mile times should be comparable to that torqueless vtec poo.
I agree, drifting is not a sport. Rally cars drift constantly, usually one wheel is off the ground most of the time, but they put it to a purpose, getting to the finish line, while drifting, yoiu drift just to drift. That proves it as a show. I circle jerk is more of a sport than drifting.
