I don't think you have a lean condition. Trust the a/f data from the dyno - almost everyone's starts out a bit lean at the beginning of the run -- if you're running between 12 and 13 for the top half of the run - that's just about perfect. In fact, it's just a little bit rich for a naturally aspirated car you could run it up about 13.5. White plugs don't tell you anything at all - most of our plugs run white. The ecu is always trying to run the cylinder as lean as it can to conserve fuel and to manage emisssions. Unless you're having some other symptoms (overheating, detonation, blown head gaskets, etc.) your car is just fine, and your friend, while well intended, probably didn't give you the best advice. Many people spend lots of money on dyno/chip time to get their a/f ratio into the 12-13 range that yours is. Relax. Enjoy the car.

Thanks Michael that puts my mind more at ease. I have no other symptoms that i or anyone else has noticed, no blown head gasket or detonation, or overheating. The two times i was at the track it ran strong no smoke coming from pipes, it didn't run hot, and no sign of detonation. I think i will change the plugs this week, along with wires, cap, rotor. What in your opinion is a better plug Autolite, Motorcraft or NGK. Seems like everyone says either Autolite or NGK but i have Motorcraft in there now. Once again thanks Mike.

Is it safe to run the car at the track this weekend?

Kev - I'd make a separate post about the plugs. Why are you replacing yours? I don't even know what kind are in mine (!!!). I bought new heads off of a new Ford Racing crate engine -- they'd been torqued down but never run. They had plugs in them when they arrived from the seller (ebay) - and it's been running just fine with whatever is in there.

Here's a great link that explains about plugs and heat range - a commonly misunderstood part of plug technology. http://www.sentra.net/tech/sparkplugs.php
