quick EGR test: apply vac to the valve at idle. if the idle gets worse, your valve and set up should be working all right. if the idle stays the same, the EGR is messed up, in some capacity (EGR solenoid should only allow the valve to open at part throttle - if it opens at idle, the idle will degrade and possibly die).
