almost done installing a e-brock intake and bbk tb/egr

went to start it to reset distributer. and the car has a bad knock. I can tell the knock is ignition related becouse as I turn the dist the knock gets better and worse as I turn it different directions. I can almost eleminate the knock but to get it that far I have to retard the ignition so far the motor just shuts off

I called a friend but he said I could have the dist 180degrees out, though I doubt this

I want to get this car running soon becouse the wife has the other car in another state so I'm stranded :(
help......please :bang:

It might be easier to stuff a paper towel in the spark plug hole on #1, that way you can crank away and not have to lean over with your finger in the motor. Just make sure you leave MOST of the paper towel outside of the hole. If it was 180* out from my experience the car wouldn't run. What exactly does this "knock" sound like? Are you sure your firing order is right, injectors hooked up in the right order? (injector #1 and #2 on my harness are hard to tell apart, I have to go by wire color)

the injector harnesses pretty much fell into place on thier own. besides, I thought they were batch fire anyways? what are the wire colors on yours?

could someone please post the firing order, I just want to make sure I got it right

thanks

remember firing order is counter-clockwise and remember to put your SPOUT back in if you had it out during setting the timing. If you didn't have the SPOUT out, pull it out and reset your timing w/ a timing light and put the SPOUT back in.

is that that little pull-out fuse that is inline with the dist harness?

It looks like a fuse, yes, and it branches out of the same harness as the tfi module on the dizzy. Pull it out to set your timing, and put it back in when you're done. When it's out, it keeps the computer from messing with your timing so you can accurately set the base advance.

ok, I'm not a beginner, I have done 6 different manifold swaps on variouse cars. but this 5.0 is pissing me off

I got it going, took out that SPOUT and tried it. the dist was so far out of position I had to pull the whole thing out and reposition the rotor.

well, now that I got 98% of the knock out of it I have a new issue, just from idoling for 3 min the exaust got so hot the headers and h-pipe started to glow. that worried me so I shut it down.

oh yeah, on that funky-heevie-jeevie thang that is the timing pointer what part of it is the actual 'point'?

ok, got it running better, but new problems

when I step on the gas, lets say I bring it up to 2500rpm, after I let out the throttle the rpm will stay there for like 5 sec before it drops back down

and also, the temp gauge shows I am running normal temp, but if I leave it running for a just 2 minuts the heat coming of the motor is intense and the manifold becomes extremely hot to the touch. much hotter than the stock one did
