What does it do if you set it to 10* btdc (to the right of the zero mark).. your car will run like garbage at 0*.

And if you're detonating at 0* advance, I would strongly suspect the firing order is off, or your injectors are hooked up out of order..

What happens when you put the spout back in?

when I put the spout back in everything stays the same

the firing order is definatly straight. I dunno how the injectors could be out of order cause the wires are spaced out well on the harness

I'll check it anyways though

It's worth a shot. The same thing happened the last time I tore my car down, got it running again it it was knocking, every 2 or 3 revolutions. Turns out #1 and #2 injectors were hooked up backwards, that fixed it completely. You're right though, the rest of them definately "fall into place" as far as which one goes where.

Try pulling your plug wires off the distributer one at a time, start it, and see if the knock goes away. This will at least tell you which cylinder the problem is in.

I swiched around the 1 and 2 injector harnesses. no difference

I tried unplugging spark plugs to find the knock but I couldn't figure it out. I am going to try to find someone nearby to get a second opinion. this thing is really depressing me, I have never had a manifold job go bad like this before

Don't give up on it. Take the #1 plug wire off the distributor cap, then start your car. Let it run until you hear the knock (or don't), then move on to the next cylinder. IF the problem is in one cylinder, this method will let you determine which it is.

Did you use the tdc combustion stroke method mentioned in one of the first few replies to stab your dizzy?

The hanging rpms imply a vacuum leak, make sure all your hoses are hooked up, use the carb cleaner test to look for leaks around the manifold.

ok, new info

I decided to take the car on the road to see how it would run. to my surprise, all I have is the initial throttle tip in, nothing else. I bumbed the gas, and eventually floored it. not even a change in engine tone, nothing.

new theory: TPS
the tps helps the engine to decide how much feul to put in right? my exaust heating up super fast and the knocking would both be signs of not enough feul. also the rpm's sticking could be another clue that the tps is not right.

I'll try swapping out with the TPS from the stock unit and see what happens

well, replaced the TPS with the stocker

it runs a little better and I have the throttle response back. but the knocking is still there

oh well, I WAS going to a shootout tomorrow I am going to give up for now. if I get up some energy later tonite I will try something on it. and if I get it to work right tonite I will consider it a luckshot
