plugs for smog ports in back of cylinder head...

anyone have a picture of theirs threaded in? i need to know how far these go in. trying to put them in with the motor still in tends to be a PITA.

I have them I'd say about half the threads in? How the hell can i turn these? Everything keeps on slipping out of the "notches" and I don't want to strip them!

Any help appreciated!

I just bout pipe plugs for mine.

Trickflow sells them. Make sure they are the same size as theirs. You should also put a tap through it. All the carbon buildup from the exhaust will cause it to not thread in well.

Mine went all the way in, and then you use an allen wrench to turn it.

Like 'Mackey' said, it's a good idea to run a tap in them to chase the threads. Once you find the correct size bolt, be sure to add plenty of loc-tight to the bolts to prevent leaking...besides, you'll not remove them again ;-)

You need 5/8 coarse 1" long bolts,they are not pipe plugs.

i thought it was 14mm, but it's definitely not npt.

accessories can bolt up like your power steering stud and one of your bigger alternator bolts that go through you alternator bracket. The back thermactor plugs you will use just block off and delete the smog equipment’s previous hookups. You can get them at a Ford Dealership - part # F4ZZ-6E086-A or you can buy some from Summitracing - part # TFS-51400265 and they run anywhere from $3 to $12 dollars from what I have seen. Summit has them cheaper.

I just got a wide screwdriver and screwed it in until it bottomend out. You could use a penny/dime I believe to get it in and I'd use some high temp silicone...

i thought the bolts were 5/8, 11 threads per inch. i used 1" long, which is too much but i dont really care. they stick out, but u can't really see them anyways.....
just not sure about the 5/8 -16 comment previously.... i'd double check

So I should just use a bolt to thread down in there with threadlocker, that's what I should have done to begin with... getting them in using a quarter to turn those notches is proving ridiculous of a task! THANKS

More than likely you need to run a tap in the holes. Me and my buddy were putting his engine together yesterday. 5/8-11 threads. We just used some 5/8-11x1" long bolts I had laying around. The threads were covered with carbon and had to be tapped. Once tapped, the bolts or inserts should thread in by hand until the seat at the bottom of the hole.
