I was researching on the PMS...trying to decide between that and the Tweecer. I read that the PMS has a history of rich spikes that some people see and one guy also said he heard of lean spikes.....

Is this so? If it is i dont want to put that much money into something to only have it run with flaws. Are there any problems like this with the tweecer?

yep, the older ones have a hard time tranfering from EEC control to Stand Alone and have a "spike" around 4k when that happens.

The new ones are much better with that.

ok, sounds good. What about EGR and Long tube functions. I know the tweecer can take off the check engine light when u dont have smog equipment on and u can also change something so that it knows u have long tube headers on.

Can the PMS do something similar? I read through the manual and didn't see anything along these lines. I am guessing that AFM might be able to do it in the start up program they make for you.

I sure hope it can atleast take off the check engine light....that would be annoying to spend $900 and still have it.

Thanks for the info guys!

:nonono: Man, i just talked to the tech line at AFM and the guy told me there is nothing you can do about the check engine light with the pms. :notnice:

That sucks. I know its a stand alone system but is it that much better in tuning and fuel for the extra money? It seems much easier to use but i just dont want a check engine light.

I guess i will have to either live with it or keep the smog stuff on. What do u guys think? Is it possible to do the fox body swap and keep egr?

hmmmm.....more researching to do....

Its easy to get around the EGR check engine light.

Remove the EGR. Plug the intake elbow with a peice of aluminum. I traced the EGR gasket on a chunk of aluminum I found in my garage. Cut it out and drilled holes. Ok, next take the white portion of the EGR (part where the connector would plug in) off with a ratchet (can't remember the bolt size but it's really tiny). Once that is removed find the small air hole on the shaft and plug it with silicone. Now take the white portion back to the car and plug it back into the connector. Zip tie it away from view. At Lowes in the Hardware section, purchase a 5/8 nut and cap your header. That's it, no CE light and your bypassed the EGR.

hmmm sounds like a plan! But i dont have any scrap aluminum laying around....im 19....still in moms garage, lol. Do i still have to do that if i change to a Fox Body setup? Thats what im doing.....

:rlaugh: Mine has been throwing the code for 3 years and I never felt any side effects. Maybe the hotter gases caused some detonation but that doesn't exist in my motor anymore. :D

oh yea, one other thing. I know Killercanary has said something about injector pulsewidths and such helping to give a couple more miles per gallon in gas mileage. Can this be attained using the PMS?

Does the PMS take out the shift tip in retard when its in stand alone mode?

Im just trying to think of all the pluses and minuses with each setup.
