Would you run Brake fluid or trans fluid through your intake to clean out carbon?

No I would not do that. I would use brake fluid for brakes and the tranny fluid in the tranny.

theres some cleaner that napa sells called "seafoam" thatll clean your intake and engine out

go to a GM dealership and buy a couple of cans of "Top Engine Cleaner" (the spray kind..they have another one in liquid form thats for carbs & tbi's) they are about $12 a can but they are killer...

wow. ya know what? try both. do it at the track, too. you should get some awesome compression with fluid in your cylinders like that. seriously.

lemme know what your timeslips turn out like. and how many pieces the bottom end blows up into.

Old school to run tranny fluid, never heard of running brake fluid..

D3l7a_3ch0 you dont just dump it in and start the engine..

GM Top End CLeaner is the bomb!! I have seen other auto makes actually recomend it in tsb's...

yeah...but i actually think the tranny fluid is meant to be used instead of oil? you add a quart of it before your oil change and run your engine and drain it out and it kind of cleans out the oil pathways etc.....but i dont think its meant to be sprayed down the intake......ive never heard of brake fluid tho....

I worked at a garage where the owners owned Peterbuilts to haul milk. When we changed the oil, and all the filters, we used to completely fill the fuel filter with transmission fluid. Works for deisels, why not cars. With that said, I wouldn't. There are a few products, as mentioned above, that are for that purpose. I bought some from O'Reilly's that hooked up to a vacuum port. It was a pretty cool setup, but I didn't notice that it did anything. I would try the GM stuff.

i have experience with the stuff you run thru your vaccume port and ive noticed if the line you run isnt perfectly sealed and it dosnt have perfect vaccume it dosnt work....you have to have the hose thats sucking the solvent into the intake perfectly seated or it wont work properly...i dont know if maybe thats why it didnt work for you but maybe just a tip for the future

Diesels and Gas engines are like boys and girsl. One has a penis and one does not. They are NOT EVEN CLOSE. Tranny fluid just has a high detergent rating. I would not recommend it ANYWHERE except the transmission. Kerosene is a good choice for the crank (oil pan) when changing your oil. This added to the oil will help remove sludge down below the pistons, before the oil change. They sell a bottle of motor flush which usually is just kerosene anyway. Yes diesel fuel and kerosene are a lot alike, so you could substitute it in the oil, BUT NOT in the fuel for your cleaning. Old school guys used to take water and sprinkle it down the carb throat openings while the vehicle was running. The water would ignite in the chamber with the gas and then become steam, this steam would clear out the carbon, and you can watch the exhaust start to puff out the white smoke. The engine spits and sputters losening up the carbon and blowing it out the exhaust. You cant do the that on an injected car, so either you pull your intake and soak it in solvent, or you buy the Seafoam. It is good stuff.
