Poor Throttle Response

Just want to start off by saying hey, I'm new here. Not to mention this is my first Mustang.
Well my problem is that I have have serious hesitation under wide open throttle from anywhere between 1500-2000rpm . The car is a stock 2001 GT with 36,500 miles (only thing not stock is the cat back exhaust).
Next thing is I want to do some upgrades, so can people point me in the right direction. I'm on a limited budget so the super chargers and turbos are out for right now. Thanks for any help.

Intake mods are a start if you are looking for throttle response.

How bad of a hesitation? Does it sound like it wants to stall?

have you done the basic tuneup ei: sparkplugs, air filter, fuel filter, pulled the neg. off the battery to reset the comp.

do all these things first , do you have a check engine or service engine soon light ???

Thanks guys, resetting the computer fixed it.
Now I'm just wondering what would be the first mod I should go with on this car? again its completely stock except for the flowmaster exhaust from the cat back.

If you want the best bang for the buck go with gears. Either 3.73s or 4.10s depending on future modifications. 3.73=future blower and 4.10s= N/A. Oh yeah changing the fuel filter in you haven't done that might be a good idea that thing gets dirty quick.

Yes, gears 1st along with a Steeda/Ford EEC reburn from T&J Performance to advance your timing and compensate for the speedo being off.

Am I the only one noticing that there is not a problem with his car. The post said hes not getting good throttle response from 1500-2000 rpms. My car won't do anything with those low rpms. Now if he said he was laying into it at 3500 rpms and it wasn't going nowhere than there would be something wrong.

No there was a problem, even when I hit the gas (wot) I wasn't expecting to spin the tires, but I got next to no acceleration. It was just a serious hesitation, until I took my foot off and eased into it. When I reset the computer I no longer had a problem with the bogging feel.

Right now I have $500 to spend. Though I'll have about $1500 in about 6 months (paying off a student loan as fast as possible )

if you can put a little with that 500 i would shoot for a NOS kit 05116NOS , usually 650 to 700 bucks , if you are limited to 500 and dont wanna do the jug , i would do a UPR xpipe for 150 , and gears 3.73 would be my choice , and if you can spare it , put a good shifter in there so you can bang some gears

You know, I'm getting really curious about this. I unhooked my negative cable yesterday afternoon, and when I was finished , and riding around, I noticed how smooth the car was running, and how it was accelerating better than it had for a while. I wonder whether the Ford computer program is "adaptive" or is somehow stepping on itself with a glitch/bug of some sort and putting bad data into its tables ? Anyone have any insight ?

post this over at modularmustangs.net and see if Tim knows more about this , he understands the computer systems very well .
