popping sound?

I have a popping sound every rotation... One pop in every cycle... It doesnt rev fast. These things wined like bikes but mine revs slow. i have replaced everything. could it be a blown head gasket? i guess i used ****ty ones... the car sounds good but wont idle without gas it only sounds bad the one time on the firing order...

I will go and ck them again but im almost positive they are good... Is there anyway this could be gasket related? And I also do have a narly vac leak but cant seem to track it down... Loud like a gear drive lol... could that cause that one cylinder to pop on que everytime? its not erractic pooping its timed and w/e

My smog hose has a dime size hole which caused the rear passenger side cylinder to have a lean missfire. Check if the cylinders are running lean. Check the gasket between the upper and lower, TB gasket and the lower manifold gasket.

the crazy thing is i had the wrong plugs in a couple days ago and i pulled them out... #4 and #8 were charcoal black and the rest were white.... i cant remember if it was popping then but i remember it had the same idle wouldt rev fast and and drove like ****.. then i go get the right plugs 3924's and put them in..if it were running lean then why would the 2 back cylinders be running way rich? im at a loss but keep the suggestions and idea comming please thanks guys... im going to autozone right now to get a compression tester

Those numbers are fine. You're not looking for a specific number, but rather a percentage of comparison. In other words, you're looking for 15% (might be 10%, don't remember for sure) or less difference between cylinders. So you're good to go. I have 140-150 on all mine too.

EDIT: you could go back and check the rockers on cylinder 4, if you think 135 is too low. I got another 10psi out of all mine by readjusting them. They were too tight to begin with.

i agree with CMan, the numbers aren't too low, they're indicative of slightly lower static compression with a late closing intake valve...(bigger cam).

the compression variance numbers depend on where you look, for performance use, 10% is a great starting place-obviously the closer the better, but for general grocery getters, most repair manuals suggest no more than 20% (yeah, i know, ridiculous)

the rockers idea may yield you some gain as well. but as for the back two cylinders being soot fouled and the rest lean still has me guessing

ok... so all of them 1,2,5,6,7,8 all read 145 but 3 read 135 and 4 reads 150... could there be a gasket leak causing this? why the hell does it pop? I pulled all the plugs... all were fine cept #4 looks a lil lean and #8 looks lil rich... any suggestions? i figured out that 135 is 10% lower than 150.. and 145 is 7% lower than 150... IM GETTING PISSED I DONT KNOW WUT IS UP WITH THIS CAR!

the fouled plugs were the wrong ones... all were really lean cept #4 and #8 they were really dark... i changed the plugs and then started it and ran it crappy .. when i pulled them to do the comp test... #4 was lil lean and #8 was a lil rich...all the rest were nice like roasted marshmellows.
