Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum and technically don't belong, but oh well. My reason for being in here is a question I have on the 4V heads. You see, I'm heavily considering swapping my '98 GT's stock engine for a BRAND NEW Mach 1 engine and I want to get an idea for aftermarket performance potential. Basically, my question is: How much horsepower would I gain if I had the stock heads ported and polished? (Like what Fox Lake offers here: http://foxlakeracing.com/index.php?...ds&PHPSESSID=384f0a8b97ee0da22fa0d58f18f248eb -- 320 cfm intake and 260 cfm exhaust @ .550" compared to a stock 260 cfm intake and 201 cfm exhaust @ .550"). Also, are there any high performance intake manifolds available besides the outrageously priced FR500? Should I just have the stock one P&P'ed? Thank you very much.

Not sure how much hp you would get from just P&P'ing the heads....my buddy just did this, but also went higher compression and cams. Guessing, I would say you might see around 15RWHP....purely a guess. As for the intake, the FR500 (crazy priced) is the only real option out there right now.

What are your goals? What kind of RWHP do you want? You could pick up more RWHP with some bolt ons for much less money.

For a 5.4 DOHC, try MP new intake. As far as head work who knows, maybe somebody will eventually figure it out.

Since I'm kind of new to the world of 4V's, I don't really know what kind of RWHP I can reasonably expect. Ideally, I'd want 375-400. Is this possible or just totally absurd? Thanks.

Since you are in Chicago, give Anderson Ford a call...they are in Clinton IL, about halfway between St Louis and Chicago...They do head porting on modular heads and they also sell cams to go with them, and their prices for the porting really aren't that bad...and they are close to you so you could drive them down and drop them off cheaper than shipping them...here's their webpage

Um, that's great for the 5.4 group, but last I checked the Mach 1 was a 4.6 List some intake options for the 4.6 4V guys!!!

Well, with a power adder it's not hard at all. n/a, it will be very hard and very expensive. Buddy just had a big bore with higher compression, cams, and P&P heads done....also has full exhaust, pulleys, CAI and MAF upgrade and hit 355 (I think)....still waiting dyno tune and hoping for 370RWHP. If he spent $3000 on the FR500 intake, he would most likely see close to 400RWHP. For about half of the cost, you could slap on a blower and see over 400RWHP no problems.

So, it can be done, but it would be very expensive.

There are tow Blower kits for the mach engine. I believe that both of them are now shker compatible. You probably want to look into the cost of wiring the engine, trans hookup, Kmember and so on. I really do not think the price is worth it. For the money you could build your engine to be much better. I think the coolness factor would be very high but the cost to benifit would not. Just something to think about..

If you get the most recent issue of 5.0 Magazine they have a build up of a VT Engines 5.0 Stroker on an SOHC that also gets a set of their cams and ported heads and it's putting out 375hp...Do that to a DOHC and you'll have over 400hp on the engine most likely...

Because you'll need a whole lot more to put the 03 blower on an 01 engine than just the blower...

Well, he's looking at a Mach1 engine which is essentially the same as an 01 Cobra, well, the Mach1 is an iron block and has upgraded heads and cams, but the 03 blower will fit both no problem...it's all the other stuff you would need to make it work like a new timing chain cover since the accessories are in different spots, bigger injectors, MAF, etc...It would get quite costly...Plus, the 03's compression is 8.5:1 where the Mach's is 10:1 and the 01 Cobra's is 9.85:1 so they wouldn't take the boost as well as the 03 Cobra does...

Hey everyone. Blowers are out of the question. I want to stay N/A as long as possible. What's the story with the '03 Cobra intake manifold? Does it have to be used with the blower? Is it any good? Thanks.

The 03' manifold is a Blower,so yes you have to use the blower.. For the money and if I am reading your first post correctly. You want to do all this to you 98' Mustang. You should just pull the engine and take it to a good engine builder and let them at it. You will drop about $5k and it will be built right and have plenty of power. The blower is going to be the best bang for the buck. I don't believe in NO2. You could go that route too if you want. Don't worry about swapping to and Mach or Cobra engine. It will cost you more than you want to spend and the upgrade vs. cost is too high IMO.. You might as well just buy a Cobra or Mach and Mod from there. If you build the engine you will need to keep in mind that if you boost the comp. you may have to lower it if you get a blower later.. May have to swap cams too. That is something to consider.

When you're talking about letting engine builders at my engine, what do you mean? Like what would they do to it? I personally thought a new Mach engine for $3000 was a steal. So, you're saying I should just build my 2V. Besides the obvious headswap, what else is there? Thank you very much. Peace.

BTW, maybe I should explain a few of the other reasons I'm attracted to Mach engine swap besides the obvious horepower gain. There were three main things that I liked: 1.) More possibilities for upgrading and increasing horsepower - If I built the 2V up with a headswap, there wouldn't be much more and I could get about 350 rwhp at the most, where as there's somewhat more potential with the 4V. 2.) 1000 RPM higher redline - No explanation needed. More top end. 3.) Forged internals - More durable. Not the mention that fact that I would all new parts as opposed to 55,000 mile parts. However, I am very interested in hearing your opinion on how I should build up my stock motor. Thanks again.

Just to clarify (maybe I'm reading it wrong), but the Mach engine isn't forged. Neither are the 99-01 Cobra 4V's.
