Ok... a little humor to start the thread, but whatever... Anyway, I have a S281SC 00-061 that is completely stock except for 3.73's. According to Liz @ Saleen it's a 1 of 8 Model wise, but 1 of 1 with options so I want to keep it completely stock (appearing) so I've been observing several Mustang websites and weeding through the 95% punk crowd to gather enough info about quality shops, tunes, and parts to add that isn't a complete gamble. I came up with an option of porting the super charger, adding a pulley, adding a larger fuel pump, then ending up with some reasonable HP/TQ so I don't get embarassed by some D-bag in Corvette or Cobra (They better know how to drive ;)) Anyway, I called Chicane and he told me that idea sucks because I'll have $1500 into a tune, porting, fuel pump, pulley. He said I should buy a Kenne Bell system for $5500 (Includes blower-chip, fuel system etc.. should make 400hp/wheels)..... I asked him how much my engine would take without a forged lower end, and he said that his buddy had 420rwhp on his stock moter and it lasted a whole 9 months.....Can somebody tell me what I need to do to get 375-400rwhp that will not show modification??? Endulge me...

You should have no problems with a KB kit. Stock lower end is good for around 400RWHP with a good tune. The weakest link is the rods. As long as the tune is good, and you don't drive stupid you should be OK. Make sure to have the tune checked on the dyno, and monitor the A/F ratio.

Lots of guys running around with 400 on the stock lower end with no problems what so ever.

Not a tough decision to me, $1,500 or $5,000. I would get the port and pulley with the supporting mods.

From what I have seen and heard any 2V with 420 rwhp or more is a matter of when not if.

i just ordered a predetor tuner with a free life time of tunes im also getting the water methonal injections done which the guy i talked to at amazon racing told me with that combo he has done in the past to mustangs should get me about 350 the rear wheels he then told me if i do the tuner and let him port my blower he could get me 380. so i am not sure if i want the blower ported or get the water methonal injection.

You said you want to keep stock appearing, You wil have to go the route of porting the stock blower if you want that, other wise the KB obviously looks different. plus 1500 dollars is cheaper, and you will have to tune a crap load to get up to 5500.

As long as you save your stock Eaton blower there is no sense in port, tune and then the extra money you will spend up and above the $1,500 after you have that done and are not happy. Trust me and trust Joe. It's all the guy lives for and no-one knows more about your car than he does. He will never sell you anything you don't need. You don't have to make 420 rwhp with a KB but you can. You can make an incrediblely conservative 375-400 hp with the Kenne Bell 1.7 that comes with all of the supporting hardware and tune and have less worry about your stock bottom end.

Your car will be worth more money ( more than $1,500 ) if you save the blower, leave it stock and go buy a new blower when it's time to sell. EVERY completely stock Saleen Mustang is worth more used to someone who is willing to pay collector prices for it if it's completey stock than if you tell him, yea it looks stock, but the blower is ported and yadda yadda and it makes 3?? hp. The second you start working on that stock Saleen blower the more disappointed you will become. At a certain point you will have wished you had kept your stock blower in a box in the garage and just gone Kenne Bell. If you want to look stock and go faster buy a newer S281 with the series IV or an "E" car.

just my .02 cents.

With your '00 car I would think of the following:

* Chicane 66mm pulley
* New SC belt from Chicane
* Aluminum Driveshaft
* Sub frame connectors w/ cross braces
* Ford 70mm TB
* Cold Air Kit, your choice (get the RIPP from Joe and make him happy)
* "High Flow" X-Pipe
* Tune from Joe @ Chicane
* Pro5.0 shifter
===========
That should be about $1,500 give or take. It will also keep your car "just about stock", and nothing would be too hard to remove except the subs.

If you still feel the need to run 10's you could get a used bike for $3K and still be cheaper than the KB kit, and on the bike be faster :)

I don't drive it a lot, especially in Minnesota... I have 10k on it the way it is, and I plan to keep low miles on it and would love to keep it for my son someday (when I DIE!!!!) anyway, I'm just looking for more power without modifying the crap out of it, resulting in devaluing my car. I have no interest in running 10's, I bought the car because I was into roadracing before and I like balance of the car in stock form. I'm just looking for more power and an even bigger grin.

My car is also 1 of 1, but I went off the deep end. My car made 320rwhp with headers and h-pipe when I sent it to Modular Powerhouse. It came back with 650rwhp and 670rwtq. I went with a KB 2.2L. After Tim at MPH tuned it, it drove better then stock
