Ive got a friend who is a machinist and makes his living porting and polishing heads and intakes. I was wondering if it would even be worth while to have him port/polish the upper and lower stock intake manifolds for our 99+ cars? How much hp/torque can i expect from a job like this?

Im a moron, i wasnt thinking about the lower intake. However do you think porting a stock upper would be beneficial over a C&L or other aftermarket upper. Will an extensive port job outflow aftermarket?

porting the stock plenum and using a intake spacer was popular before the aftermarket plenums came out but its easier to just buy a C&L or Trick Flow for $100...none of them get you more then 4 or 5 hp.

You would probably show a little bit of low to mid range performance increase by porting the stock plenum, but something like the C&L plenum will give you a little more power all the way across the curve.

You have to be carful with DIY porting though, because aftermarket plenums are designed to give as laminar a flow as possible to the lower. You just have to be careful if you are going to attempt to do your own porting to the plenum that you don't disrupt this laminar flow.
