Funny, I was just thinking this question for my rear end.
I am going to go with an Eaton 31 spline, 3.73's and Moser 1/2' stud axles. I am going to add on a set of weld draglights and a set of adjustable upper and lower control arms. I'll finish off with some 70/30 springs.

I have a 93 Cobra so I already have the disk brakes on the back. I want to start in the rear and work towards the engine. I have a 95 Cobra for a daily driver. Eventually I would like a TCI auto and a 347 Stroker with Kenne Belle Supercharger @18 psi. Lookin for tens.

I got a lot of side work to do.

How come no one mentioned the Detroit True-Trac?

I don't know, it's got to be the nicest street/strip diff on the market.
Tough as hell, gear'd not clutched, quiet and invisable around town, and locks up hard under power.

The powertrax lockers are miserable.
"I" would never consider a locker for a street driven vehicle... the "you get used to it" mentality doesn't apply. I don't want to coast around turns, I don't want the car to jerk in it's lane on highway curves, and I don't want it pushing the front end in rain or under power in a turn.
2 of my good friends put lockers in thier daily driven Jeeps.
1 bought a chev truch for a daily driver, the other removed the lockers and went with true trac's.
I know several guys with detroit lockers in thier strip cars, and none of them reccommend it for street driving.
I have one friend that totaled his car in the rain on a hiighway curve because the locker jerked the car enough for him to loose control.

Sure, there are plenty of folks driving lockers on the street... just I'll never be one of them.

Here is my plan when I finally get a chance to do the diff in my 93.

31 spline trac loc diff rebuilt with c/s/c/s/c arrangement. You can usually pic up a used 31 spline fairly cheap.

Moser 31 spline axles

all new bearings just for the piece of mind

a set of ET streets.

Personally I like the idea of being able to rebuild the trac loc for about 40 bux. That and the fact that I can pick one up and with a rebuild kit have maybe $100 in the diff and rebuild. That and I end up having to do some budget stuff to keep the wife off my back.
