Possible clutch woes?

I understand totally if nobody can answer this because I can't be too specific. Recently, seemingly totally randomly, my car started making this really awful burning smell. It happens almost everytime I drive the car and it doesn't seem to matter if I ride it hard or just cruise. My first thoughts went to the clutch but it is not slipping and it feels strong. A friend of mine is a mechanic at the local Goodyear and he said it does smell like clutch but it feels fine and visually there's nothing he can really see to tell (he said all this with his head stuck underneath my car in the driveway) Another friend of mine said it smelled like a plastic bag had caught under the car and was burning to give you an idea of the smell (visually confirmed no plastic bags :nice: ) If anyone has any input at all I'd truly appreciate it. I think I'll take it in to Ford and see if my warranty is still alive tommorrow and get it checked out but I wanted the opinions of some of you experienced Stangnetters first. Thanks a ton in advance - Mark

If anybody cares, I took it into the dealership today and only 45 minutes later (after the transmission guy and the head engine guy had looked at it and drove it) they found that it was not the clutch. WHen they changed out the oil for me, it looked terrible... REALLY REALLY terrible... and since it had only been 4,000 miles since an oil change he determined that someone had put the wrong viscosity oil in the engine and it had started to break down and burn... Luckily nothing is broken, but they ended up not charging for the clutch and tranny check (usually $60) because Coastal Ford in Mobile has the best service dept I have EVER been too. But this was just an update for anyone that read this before. - Mark
