possible new DD car for me

02 Accord, 203k miles! Guy I know owns a used car lot and picked it up at the auction, and said I could have it for $500. I checked it out, the VC gasket is leaking (no biggie) the right CV joint is clicking lightly $45-$50 to replace, and it may need a new timing belt... Belts are $50, but a kit will cost more...

Everyone claims hondas last "forever" and this one seems to run fine, but I'm wondering if it'd make it through 4 years of college for me... Not wanting to drive my stang long distances everyday, but I dont want to be left stranded with the accord.

The CV joint can wait for awhile until I can fix it, and it may not need a timing belt but I highly doubt it won't so I'm probably looking at around $600 for the car after I do all of the work. The body is in decent shape other than the front left fender is beat in pretty badly and the paint it cracking... again, nothing major. I'm just basically worried that the car wont survive long enough or leave me stranded when I need to be somewhere. Anyone have any imput on this car?

Thats an average of 67,000 miles a year put on the car. With that in mind, if the car runs great besides what you mentioned, it sounds like it is definitly worth the $500.

in your figuring of costs...dont forget about $800 for an unpainted Optimus Prime Battle Shogun Warrior Ninja Gaiden Street Fighter body kit, an Ebay Muffler, and an aluminum wing....you know, to make it work right...

My 02 GT just has 29k. Thats with me not fixing the odo after the 4.30's got put in for almost a year. Did it take cross country trips?

Change the timinig belt, clean the iac, and check the ac. Those are things that have went out on the 98 prelude we have. Its got 170ish on it right now.

203k is NOTHING. To put on that many miles that fast a lot of them are probably highway miles. I can't tell you how many cars (vw's and hondas) we get through our shop here with 350-400k and more miles on them, and they still run great. Good luck with her, just to let you know at the auctions here in Phx an 02' accord with a good body would fetch 1800-2800 dollars regardless of the milage if you got lucky and won the bid. Good find.

That's sounds so funny, $500 and your making a down payment. LOL. Not flaming I know your young but just sounds funny. I would say go for it. That is exactly the kind of deal I am looking for right now. Cause my DD is a honda but its only got two wheels and isnt much fun in the winter.

I passed it up, it didnt idle too well... whole car vibrated, and didnt like the fact that it had 203k miles on it. I'm not in a hury to get another car right now, so I'm going to go with the guy to some auctions and look for my notch back mustang I want.

He sold the car a few hours later for $1400. If I would have bought it it would have broken down and I'd been out $500

Timing belt had slipped. Not a big fix. My prelude did the same thing.

That would have probably been a couple hundred dollars in parts to fix that. I dont regret not buying it since I really want an 80's - early 90's F150 with a 302 in it, or a 80's - 90's notch
