I was curious if we could start to put together a running thread discussing/rating tires and how they grip on the street/track/rain/snow or whatever...Personally I'd like to see someone rank tires (with brands) for best traction on the track and street...

For example...
Street...
1) Nitto NT-555R Drag Radial
2) BFGoodrich Comp T/A Drag Radial
3) Goodyear Eagle F1 GS
.
.
.
Last) Kumho Ecsta Supra 712

Just a thought...

this has potential to be a really informative thread.............if it doesn't degenerate into a typica stangnet flamefest.

It's a good thing you rank the Kumho 712's last. I did some checking before I bought them thinking that they would be a nice tire to buy. But I will deff buy BFG's or Nittos next time. I would recommend them if you just plan on street driving (like a grandma), but they suck on the drag (could not get them to hook, some guy said I needed to do a longer burnout to get them to grip but I have this big problem with putting 1,000 miles on a tire I just bought). And I push them on the twists and turns of the Cali HWY's but I have a slight fear factor going in the back of my head that tells me not to go too far. But hey the tread pattern look cool. Guess that's the best I can say about them. And I wonder why my friend was going to just give his set off of his car to me.

The kumho 712's aren't bad at all on 18" rims. for drag purposes of course they suck, but for a good handling tire, my 18" Kumho 712's handle better than yokohama AVS es-100's on my stock 17's. That being said, if i had more money i still might get something with a diff tread pattern..

Good thread since I'm going to being buying my first set of tires sometime around April or May.

I used to be a fan of Michelin until the French decided not to stand by our side against the Islamic radicals so that brand is off the list. That lets out BFG since they're owned by Michelin.

I'm leaning toward Goodyear again but a more modern design than the Gatorback which has been kicking around since before I got my license in 1984.

I like the Eagle F1 GS but $183 each (ouch)

i've been pretty happy with sumitomo 275/40 htrz II's thus far. i hear a few people bashing them here & there, but for the $, it seems to be a good deal overall. pretty good dry traction, haven't been to the track with them yet though. jackie chan says he cut 2.0 60' with them. plus it has great tread pattern. haven't had them long enough for a full review of wear, etc.

X TIRE IS NOT BETTER THAN Y TIRE.

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

I WOULD TAKE Y TIRE, OVER X TIRE ANYDAY.

I love my Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's, they are the best z-rated performance tire for the price: $518.00 for a set (installed)
Sure I would like Eagle F1's but the price is not worth it.

i ordered a set of Falken Ziex 512's to replace my stock BFG Comp T/A's dont know much about them but they have the same traction rating as the BFG GForce KDW with a higher tread wear rating, i was unable to find negative comments about em and it only cost me $480 for the set from a local discount tire store, should be here tomorrow, so hopefully i can get em on tomorrow too. ill let you know how they compare since when i was searching stangnet and svtperformance there is almost 0 info on them.
