I installed my h pype last night. I like the sound overall. However, I notice new sounds that I did not hear with my stock cat's.

My main issue with this h pype is that when I hit 3000-3100rpm's, I hear this wierd sound. Some ways to desrcibe it is tinny, light rattle (not a clunking sound), or a LOUD vibration. The harder i hit the gas - the louder the sound becomes. This is the only rpm where I have this sound.

I tighted up the bolts again and am not to sure what this could be.

Is anyone else encounter these sounds? I am running the Pypes O/R H pipe with flowmaster A/T's.

Thanks.
Nick

yeah i know what your talking about, i hear it more at the 2500rpm range, anything above that sounds good

I also get a lot of popping, i guess my tune is too rich or something.

Kool should be in soon to comment on this. He had the Flowmasters with the Pypes O/R H. I'm wondering if it's pushing so much air through that's it's actually loosening the baffles in the Flows.

I dont think the sound is comming from the mufflers - sounds more like under the middle of the car. Though - I could be wrong.

Other than 3000-3100 rpms, the exhaust system sounds pretty good.

Had the same noise when I installed my Pypes x pipe. The hangers on the x pipe where hitting the metal brackets that surround the rubber isolators. Check that.

Used the torch, heated it, and bent it so it wouldn't hit

I don't have a torch so I just cut a little notch in each bracket with the cutting wheel on my dremel. It isn't the prettiest fix but it worked. I would be very surprised if this isn't the same issue you are having.

If I look at the hooks - they do not look like they are hitting anything. Maybe under the pressure from the exhaust they are shifting?

is there any way I can use vise gribs and bend them? I am not to comfortable using a torch lol

I have no metallic sounds as if something was hitting, but I had mine professionaly installed so I'm not positive on the ins and outs of the install

Oh, I didn't notice the small 100RPM range... Definitely the metal resonating with something else under the car. If not the hangers, check the heat shields.

The heat shield you are refering to is right above the h pype on the car? Its shiney looking like tinfoil, right?

If so - I think this might be the sound. Not sure though how to fix it.

I think I have come to the conclusion that this H pype is WAY to loud for a daily driver...

Does Pypes make a H pype that has cat's and isnt as loud but sounds good?

Yes, those are the heat shields I was talking about.

You could get some resonators put in after the H pipe. It would be a lot cheaper than getting a catted h pipe. Or, you could go with quieter mufflers, like GTA's.

Dark - I am not to sure what to do. I noticed since the install of this H pype - there is a much richer smell of exhaust. I think I want to keep the cat's on for the emmision purposes. I heard if I am caught without them in NY - i can get a HUGE fine. I got pulled over sat night for excelerating to fast when a light turned green (and there was a cop behind me which I did not know ) and I beleive the reason I did get pulled over was b/c of this exhaust. The car sounds like it is going a lot faster than it really is.

I am sure I could sell these on ebay or on the classified forums. Only had this H pype on for a few days.

i daily drive mine. you learn to drive around the sound. the first week or so is a learning curve. this combo is no bad as long as you learn how to accelerate. i say give it a few days and see how it grows on you as you relearn the curve.

if you are worried about the emissions related problems, i understand the reason for taking it off. if its just the sound, give it a little bit.

Thanks Big - appreciate it.

The sound that occurs from 3000-3100rpm is pretty bad. I am going to bring my camera in my car tonight and am going to get a sound record for you guys so you can hear it. The car sounds fine with a easy acceration - but when I punch it to merge into traffic - i want to when i hear it!

I believe its that heat shield - but I am not to sure what I can do to get rid of that sound if it is it. That shield is there for a reason and I don't want to remove it.

I've driven mine with the Flows & Pypes O/R H for nearly 26K miles since last March and I still love it Don't know if yours is rattling against something or not, but there are times when under certain load conditions and RPMs it almost makes me queasy from the sound pulses As far as loudness goes, big is right. You will learn to drive for sound. Where I work has cops all over the place and I've been in front of them at red lights and when the light turns green I baby it until it shifts into 2nd. I've never been pulled over...yet.
