Post-Short throw shifter install

So I installed my short throw shifter on my own... First time I have ever done something like this - but it was really easy.

I installed the pro-5.0 shifter. Since the install, I noticed a some "whine" in 2nd and 3rd gear.... I honestly do not know if this whine existed before hand - because at that point I wasnt analyzing anything in regard to the shifter and trainy. I hear it more when I punch the gas hard.

Could a new shifter cause "whine" in the trainy? If so - could this be damaging toward anything? I am not a guru when it comes to these type of things (currently learning).

Any information is appreciated to help alleviate this anxiety!

The bushings aren't as soft, so you may be amplifying the sound. Putting in a new shifter will not directly negatively affect your rear end. Also, did you reinstall the dust boot?
 
The stock one will work fine, it just takes a little patience. That, and getting the new shifter through the hole, are the hardest parts of installing a new shifter. I found myself sticking one finger down inside the boot to help guide it.
 
OK - so today is the first day that I am using this new short throw in the rain....

When I put it into 5th and reverse - I hear a squeeking sound.... I have NO idea what the hell it is, but I am paranoid!

The pro 5.0 shifters are REALLY stiff going into 5th and reverse.... I was told that it this is common with these shifters.

Anyone ever experience a squeeking sound on the pro 5.0 shifters? I am thinkin that since it was raining - maybe some bushing or move part got wet and that may be causing this sound.

any input is appreciated. thanks as usual!
 
The small silver loop directly connected to the shifter lever, at the bottom, should have a bit of grease on the bushings. That can cause some noise.

I've not heard of this problem with getting into 5th and reverse with Hurst or MGW.
 
Yeah... its a known thing with the pro 5.0 shifters.. i called up the manufacturer and they told me this is done purposely.

I am just worried that this shifter may cause damage to my trainy, or something else... I am a worried person!
 
So right now on Long Island - it is 13 degrees.... And man - my shifter felt REAL notchy...

It was almost difficult getting into second.... after a few more shifts and the car got warmer... it seemed to go back to normal.

Anyone else experience this type of behavior in real cold weather? Just want to make sure it is not damaging the shifter with this notchy cold shifts...
 
I hear noise coming up the gear lever with my Hurst Shifter too to the point that I thought once it was pinging. It's the price you pay for stiffening things up NVH goes up inevitably.
 
the pro 5.0 will have drama in street cars because they are designed for racing. You need to give it time to break in and it will get a little better, the main issue i had was it was to hard to get into 5 and R if this is your issue call pro 5.0 and get a free shim kit. becareful because if you shim to much the problem will be in 1-2 gear

I had this problem with 5th and reverse.... I didnt install it right :rolleyes:

The long metal shim that is on the stock shifter arm needs to be put onto the pro 5.0 shifter where that red bushing is. I didnt put that on (didnt read the directions enough). Shifting was a NIGHTMARE.

I put that on and also through on some grease at the bottom of the shifter... Shifting is really nice now :)

i agree and forgot i did use the white grease and thread locker
