I can't find any info in the archives about my question:

I replaced my rack & pinion with a quick ratio / high performance rack, but have not replaced the power steering pump.

Is there in fact a different pump to handle the quick ratio racks, or will I be OK with the stocker?

Car seems WAY too easy to steer, and I've just noticed a bit of whining from the pump - I've put no more than 200 miles on since the upgrade. :notnice:

Really appreciate anyone's feedback!

Cheers!

I dont know about on mustangs, but when I put a quick raito rack in my ram I kept the same pump. Mine whines a lil too, some ps pumps always have a lil whine. When we put one in my trans am we kept the same pump too.
Yea be careful with the steering, its way loose at highspeeds. Took me a while to get used to it in the ram and my pos F-body

Quick ratio (15:1) P/S rack comes stock on 5.0 (for sure on 87 and up)
Anyway, I think you might have AIR in the system causing the noise you described

Turn the wheel lock to lock and make sure the system is at the proper level.
We at Ford put in a special additive when replacing a rack or P/S pump

Your stock pump should be good for your new combination.

Oh by the way my old 134,000 mile stock pump doesn't make any abnormal noises.
