Power Window Help!!!!

I have an urgent problem. When I got to work today I noticed that my driver side front window will not raise!!! It is in the full down position. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so I need to get this figured out soon.

My other windows work flawlessly so it can't be a fuse issue. When I press the down button i hear a click in the door. When I press up... nothing. I guess there are 2 possible causes. 1- I have a bad switch. 2- I have a bad motor.

My idea is to t-tap into the wire that leads to the up button. Once I have the wire tapped, I can then touch a metal contact to the bare lead to try to active the motor to push the window up.

Any help or recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated.


By the way this is URGENT. I dont want to get all wet on my way to work tomorrow.

Might want to check the little motor that runs that operations.. they seem to go bad on Ford's somewhat frequently

A couple more related questions. First how much would a new window motor cost from a dealership? Second, how difficult would the install be? I pulled the door panel off and it does not seem to be an easy thing to change out. And Last, is there a place that is cheaper than a dealer to buy the parts?

Just happened on my mom's 2002 GT. She brought it in, they took the door panel off and slightly knocked on the window motor with a hammer and it's working like a champ. Looks like it was stuck in the down position. Since the car is still under warranty, they went ahead and ordered a new motor anyway. Part guy ordered the wrong side and swears left and right have the same part number... Now, we have to schedule another appointment

A junkyard is usually a good place to start if you're looking for cheap replacement parts

Have any of you experienced the wonderful "clunk" when the window is just reaching the all-the-way down point? I'm wondering if it's a preceding symptom of the window jam...
My passenger side is quiet and nice, while the driver's side clunks at the very bottom.

You are freaking awesome!! I woke up, went to the garage. Took a screwdriver, placed it on the motor, hit the screwdriver with a hammer....voila the window is now up.

rebelleader, glad to hear you got it fixed.

I was just curious about this thread to see if it was the same situation as mine. I've noticed that on hot days the car interior heats up to a point where the drivers side window control no longer functions (passenger side still works). Once the interior cools down the switch functions again. Anyone else experience this??

Never had that problem before. Not quite sure why the heat would stop the controls from working . Hope someone here can help
