I have a '87 5.0 Hatchback that has Power Windows. The Windows are not working at the time of this posting. I've checked every wire, every connection, checked the motor and, checked the switches to make sure they too were getting power and they are, but the windows don't move up or down. I have read, seen in person, and heard about how Power Windows on a Fox Body like to act up.

My question is how Hard OR Easy and Cheap OR Costly would it be to change from Power Windows to Manual Windows. I know it may not be a popular conversion, but just bare with me though. All of the required work will be done myself.

If it was me, I would fix the power windows. But, if you are dead set on swapping...

You need manual window regulators and the handle. You need manual inner door panels and arm rests. The power ones are longer and will interfere with your window crank.

I cannot recall if you have to drill a different hole in the door for the crank handle, though. You will have to either bolt or rivet your new regulator into place. Ford used rivets.

That's about it, it isn't very hard.

I have to fix the power windows on the 87 and the 93 , both drivers side. If I come up with anything , I'll get back to you

Just a quick update-I have looked and have NOT found anything out there that sells the parts needed to do a Power Window to Manual Window Conversion, let alone Manual Window Parts. 91TwighlightGT hit on the difference's between the 2 armrest and you would need to put in rivets where the Manual Crank would go.

You would be best off finding a set of manual doors and swapping then in.

Manual doors would be easiest as they would have all the parts. Otherwise, you will need to piece the parts together. The manual window regulators do not seem to be available at all from parts stores or the dealer, so you will have to go used regardless on those. Car-part.com would likely have the regulators.

You could also check the classifieds here and at corral.net, as lots of people are parting out cars. Make sure you get the correct color interior if you buy the door panels, all grey's are not the same!
