Powerdyne Blowers

Well, I'm assuming this is a new thing for Powerdyne .... but I don't know. They have an internal drive belt ..... eliminating the need for oil to lubricate because there are no gears. What do you guys think of these? Anyone use them?

I personally do not recommend it. I have not heard great things about thier blowers. They are easy to install since there is no oil lines and such but they are not too reliable to my understanding you are better off going with a centrifugal supercharger like vortech, etc. They are more expensive but a better blower.

Actually they are not easy to install. They do not have a belt tightening system. This is one of the reasons PD's don't make the boost numbers compared to the other blowers. That internal belt is weak also. Like Tony mentioned find a Vortech, you'll be happier with the performance.

They are not that bad of a install. Powerdynes do not have the best reputation. The internal belt can & does break. The internal bearsing are seal bearing that need no oil, but they do dry out & need replacing. The BD11A are one of the smallest blowers out. They can not be pullied to spin as high as the other blowers out there. One thing that breaks the internal belt is the shock of high reving shifting & take offs on sticky tires. There are better, longer lasting superchargers out there.
I have a Powerdyne & bought it used for a good price. No problems with it in over a year. It added 95 rwhp to my Cobra, from 255 to 350 rwhp. I'm please with it. I won't change to a smaller pulley knowing that it will over spin the internal belt & bearings. I go the track 3 times a year or so. I got mine more for the having a supercharger than for all out power.

I too, have a 6lb Powerdyne. It came with my car when I bought it about 7 months ago and the owner of the car had just had it rebuilt by Powerdyne. He paid $700 to have it rebuilt. I just had to reinstall the head unit after I bought the car. So far I've not had any problems with it. I know you can buy rebuild kits for about $110 and do it yourself should the need arise. I, like 94CobraPace saw a 95hp increase with a tune after I installed it on my GT. Went from 171rwhp to 266rwhp. I am really tempted to go to the 9lb pulley since the 6lb is actually only producing 4.5lbs of boost. But with it being a Powerdyne I'm a little scared too.

My friend and his dad both ran Powerdynes on their foxbodys. Both seemed happy with them for a year or so. (both units were used btw)

His dads internal belt broke (due to possible bearing failure), when it went, it damaged the inside of the head unit basically ruining it. He said he would probably switch to a different super charger.

Then some stupid teen chic on a cell phone pulled out in front of my friend and totalled his car. Before the insurance company could haul the car off, my friend got his powerdyne head unit off the car. They put in on the dad's car and it's been running for over 2+ years on top of the previous year or so. Again it was used before that. So to us it's kind of a toss up on how long they will last.

94CobraPace could have a good point though. My friends car was an auto. Which would be easier on the take offs even on drag radials. His dads car has a tight clutch though, and it's been holding up so far.

Oh, and they both sprayed the pi$$ out of their rides too.

i had a bd11a on my gt a few years back, and would never use a powerdyne blower again. first off, the brackets that hold the blower are flimsy and flex quite a bit. second, the tensioning system is by far the worst i have ever seen on any supercharger kit. it is a bracket with an idler pulley that slides down to apply pressure that bolts to the part of the drivers side accessory bracket where the ignition coil is held. i cracked mine from the pressure right between the bolt holes. on top of that, the most i ever saw out of that blower with the 9lb. pulley was 6psi. aside from that, i was never able to get the accessory belt straight and had to deal with squealing until the car was run for several minutes. all i can say about the kit is that you get what you pay for. after having both, my honest opinion would be to try to locate a used vortech. it will run you about what a new powerdyne kit would, and it will give you much more room to grow.

I never had any problems with min in its 6lb config. They do have really had tensoning systems, thats for sure. I upped the boost to 9lbs, but never got a change to run it due to the motor blowing. if you can find one cheep, i would go for it, but I wouldnt get one a retail price.

I'm not getting a blower. Not right now, at least. Just filling the brain with useless knowledge .... that someday ...... may be useful. A guy asked me about them yesterday, and I knew nothing about them, so it peaked my interest a little bit. If I ever do, I will go KB or Vortech without question.
