Well i've had a powerdyne bd11a on my 87 gt for about two months and after about 900 miles the internal belt broke. I then bought a kevlar belt made by gates and put it in and it broke after 50 miles.. Bearings seem to be good and everthing else appeared to look good as well. Anybody know why i keep breaking belts?

Because you didnt buy a gear drive

but seriously, what is the blower pullied to? the powerdynes can only handle so much before they break just about everything.

Is it a brand new Powerdyne? If so, return it.

Otherwise, yea, it's an internal belt driven Powerdyne and it breaks belts. The sun will also come up tomorrow and it will rain sometime in the future. No big news.

I do like some of features of a Powerdyne. But, IMHO, it's horrible choice for a daily driver.

My father has had a Powerdyne on his 99 5.4 F-150 for, well... 6 years now... never has it broke the internal belt. Is it a problem with some people? Sure... But so are Vortechs and other superchargers.

If you're running 6psi then I'm guessing that you don't have a bypass valve. Don't quote me, but I heard from another powerdyne user that the back pressure the supercharger was getting from the throttle blade closing was causing his belts to break. He claims that powerdyne informed him to try it. He hasn't had a problem sence. Sounds fishy to me! Anyone else heard of this?

If your running 6 psi and the belt is breaking something is wrong, it shouldnt be breaking that easy. Theres a company on eBay, called 928 Motorsports, they specialise in Powerdyne blowers, they have a rebuild kit for 325 i believe includes new belts and stronger bearings. They offer a 1 year optional warranty for 60 bucks, which i highly recommend. Powerdyne is a good blower, there just not as tuff as a Vortech!

Try getting a bypass valve for that blower. When that throttle plate slams closed, your impeller gets resistance and slows, but your engine turning high rpms and your belt is the weak link.

I been using a Powerdyne for over 3 years with no problems. I even ran with a 13 lbs pulley for a while.

I don't think p/d has used a Kevlar belt in years due to breakage; they went to a fiberglass belt. Does your s/c have the internal idler(s)? They started without any, then went to 1, then 2, then back to none.

Well the blower is only two months old and only has about 1000 miles on it so the bearings shouldn't be bad. Plus i've heard powerdynes customer service is terrible and they take forever to fix anything.

Don't listen to him. they don't suck. While I've never had to deal with their customer service, I can talk about what is under my hood.

I had my powerdyne rebuilt by 928 Motorsports. I had the race rebuild done. It was 600$ bucks, and the rebuild came with bearing that will handle 60,000 rpms max with a normal operating rpms at 42,000. It also has the strongest belt they could find. It is a full kevlar belt because it is actuallt the fiberglass one's that break. Ive broke 3 of them. 1 with the 6lb pulley and 2 with the 9lb pulley. Each time I had it rebuilt buy powerdyne under warranty but I would be without the charger for 6weeks minimum. I have since put a 2.75 pulley on my charger and make 10lbs of boost at 5000 rpms. The blower deffinatley whines now. Not as much as a straight cut vortech but close. I have had the bosch by-pass valve since I put the charger on, and Im told it is good upto 12lbs of boost which is what I make at 5500 rpms, but the stock heads seem to choke up past 5000 rpms. So far the blower has been fine since the rebuild and I pound on the car every day so hopefully this is the last of my belt problems.
