Would a 200 amp alternator be too much? would i need this to wire it up?http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/lrs.aspx?ref=mu&gotopage=/content_50_home.aspx Part # PA-9902 at 50resto.com

I would guess that 200 amp would be overkill. The only time my stereo has dimmed my headlights is at idle. That is the 160 Powermaster alt. The stereo is consists of 2-15" and 2-8" subs 6-mids and 6-tweets. All is well at about 1k rpm.

You should be able to add up the current draw for all accessories and compare that to the alt output at idle. I've never done it, but it should at least be close.

Can current draw be estimated with its fuse rating? I think this would give a conservatively high total current draw.

200 should not be too much, but it should be more than adequate.

For anything more than a stock replacement, you want to do a wiring upgrade. For a 200 amp alt, I would use 2 AWG myself, but that is just me (4 AWG and an appropriate fuse works fine).

You can source wiring upgrade kits from many places or make your own. Most dont include a noise suppressor like this one does.

Good luck.
