i was just wondering if there is any real difference....

buying the magnaflow axleback mufflers, or the full cat back, or going to my local muffler shop ( i've used them many times on different cars) to build me one, bend the pipes and make perfect fit with new magnaflow mufflers and tips........

if i will lose power in the end or anything ?

I never buy kits just because I want to give the business to my local muffler shop. The only difference will be if your local shop dosent have a mandrel bender but even that dosent make a difference unless you are trying to squeeze every last HP out of your car.

I would only think I would be cheaper to buy the kit. You can get axle back kits for like $300. I would think mufflers, tips, and the shop labor woud exceed that. But you can get it done for similar cost, and you like the shop there wouldn't be enough a difference to make a difference.

well the SLP kit was $220 and my local shop charged me $40 to do the same thing. so I dont think your assumption about cost is accurate.

If he added magnaflow mufflers and chrome tips like he mentioned he wanted it would. Go price those out and you start nearing $200 quickly. $40 is an unusually low labor rate for that kind of rate, or at least in my area. When a buddy of mine wanted a custom exhaust for his V6 all the local exhaust shops wanted $400-$600 to do make him one.

ya i had flowmasters put on my 03 gt and it was only like 165.....

and with the v6 install, i Did it for my dads 01 v6, remember they are a single exhaust setup, the shop had to "make" it a dual exhaust, so there was more materials and labor

My flows on my 02 F-150 only ran me $150 while the kit was running something like $450 on the internet. In my experience it has been much cheaper to have an exhaust shop piece together a system then it is to buy a kit but as alway YMMV.

40 bucks? The guy wanted 80 just to PUT ON my SLPs. And it seems like youve known this guy for a long time, so you cant base your argument over that. Its like saying my dad works at a muffler shop and makes me my mufflers for free so you all are getting ripped off.

ya my local muffler shop, the guy that does the "custom" exhaust for people is really good at it.......

i know it will look right and everything, i'm just wondering about power losses/gains......

i don't want to put some mufflers on there that sound and look great, but loose me a "bit" of hp

Its pretty much a person by person deal. Around here most places suck on labor prices. The V6 would cost more, just was using it as a gauge of what is typical labor cost. If I knew the guy I'd have him do it just to give him the business. Let me know what it ends up costing, just for my own curiosity.

On the 05 you will not see any real difference between the Magnaflow axle back or universal mufflers-

The sound may just be slightly different as the universal mufflers are not tuned to the 05 but the axleback mufflers are-

Powerwise- there will not be a big enough difference to worry about-

(use the unpolished stainless steel - many shops still call them aluminized but they are now unpolished stainless to save yourself a few more dollars)
